The special team looked just as bad as ever alkthough snaps were much better. We kicked the ball like it was a lead weight. Wecould not run back. We could not stop kickoffs. We did not run punts back because there were so few.
The offense was best represented by Jason Scales who held onto the ball. Bass waqs ineffective. Bret ran a little. The deeperthrows looked like waffles. None of our receivers ever seem open so I must think we gfool no one, they run crap routes, they are slower on grass.
The defense had one play in the books giving up a TD when #11 lost his mind and let his man run 10 yards poast him. Ace made some tackles but Colt had 4 easy TD passes when they threw over the top. At one time we trailed 300 yds-105 yards.
The Staff Team - sme nice playcalling for a peiod and thenb the bottom fell out. Shaggy missed fieldgoal started the ball going downhill again. They played several people with little luck. They had one nice trick play.
The Band Team - they tried to motivate a stagnant crowd and had a great show including the two guys dooking it out at ghalftime over the majorette.

The band easily. Our defense couldn't have stopped Texas even if they told them what play they were going to run before they snapped the ball.
I lucked into some sideline passes today and I'll tell you that it's a whole different perspective being on the field. Texas has some BIG boys on defense and their overall team speed was just too much for us.

Anyone else remember the Band Vs. Football team "scandal" of the mid '90s? I think it was '94 or '95. Here we go again.
Anyone else want in on the reprint of the t-shirts from the same era that said: "Ames IA, A drinking town with a football problem." | | |

It was the fall of 1994. That incident was blown WAY out of proportion, but that was a fun year to be in the band...

I guess I take the troubles we are currently having better than most, because this is the Cyclone football that I remember when I was growing up.
I remember beating Baylor in '96 and taking the goalposts to Lake Latrine afterwards.
Good times, good times. (honestly, some of my fondest college memories)

I thought Vandervelde (sp?) had the "indestructible" goal posts installed so they specifically couldn't be torn down.
I thought they should have installed the detachable goal posts that could be removed after the game.......

When Oklahoma tries a fieldgoal next week, maybe we can have the ground crew just drop the goal posts to ice the kicker.

If I remember right, it was from the Gene Smith days, I think Baylor '96 was the last time for the old aluminum ones. It was more for safety (read: insurance costs, I'd bet) than anything else. It was actually very controversial, at least with the students. At the time, it was a national tradition to tear down goalposts after a big win.
Oh well, I guess I have my stories about how good it was in the old days and everything new sucks

I think the industructible ones were installed in 1999? I swore they tore the goalpost down in 1998 for our 1 lone home win.

I'm not so sure that Oklahoma will need to attempt a field goal next week, as they will probably get in the end zone before they need to consider it.
