Sampson - How Many Times?

This guy obviously doesn't care what the rules say...but he keeps his jobs...or moving on to better ones...he is just as bad as Huggins!

Never seemed to me to be a good fit for Indiana, I think his reckless disregard for NCAA rules will wear thin very fast.

Mind the gap!

I agree. I was surprised that IU hired him. I always admired his teams...mostly because Tim Floyd spoke so highly of him. His teams play hard...but it sounds like Sampson just can't control himself off the court!

Re: Sampson - How Many Times?

I will be very surprised if the NCAA doesn't come down very hard on IU and Sampson. If I'm not mistaken KS was still on probation for the exact same violation. If the NCAA has any credibility at all they will have to make an example out of KS.

Read some of the replies on the ESPN thread. This guy needs to go, I don't care if he is in the Big 12 or the litttle 11, cheating is cheating!

Why should he stop? He did the same crap at Oklahoma, and Indiana still wanted him as coach. He can plead ignorance all he wants, but I don't believe a word of it.

Re: Sampson - How Many Times?

Let's be careful here. The issue this time was not breaking NCAA rules - rather it was mistakenly disobeying the SANCTIONS. The issue was that Sampson was not supposed to call recruits or engage in 3 way calling with a recruit and another coach as part of the previous penalties. He never called a recruit (as phone records will attest), but he unfortunately had a few 3-way calls with a recruit and coach Senderhoff. Let me repeat, Kelvin did not break NCAA rules on calls. There is some accusations that Senderhoff did, but not Kelvin.

As an MBA alum of IU, this is saddening but not horrendous. Also keep in mind that this all came out of IU's compliance investigations - not NCAA investigations. I give IU a ton of credit for self-reporting this, and not trying to bury it.

Arrived in STL via Ames, IA & Bloomington, IN!

If the NCAA has any credibility at all, they will have to make a stronger response then that proposed by the University. Violating the restrictions that were imposed as part of his probation shows a blatant disregard for the NCAA.

There is no way to sugarcoat it. If you're going to step in it while you're on probation then a severe response is merited.

Sorry, Sampson should be the one being careful, and either he is completely ignorant, which I do not think, or he was being cute with the rules.

Exactly. If he doesn't manage to follow the rules/restrictions while still on probation, what will he do when he's not on probation any more?
