Rules question:
Last night, and in many other games, the Rutgers field goal holder caught the snap, with knee down, and proceeded to get up and throw a TD pass. How is he not down when the snap was received? Is the a special clause in the rules for these situations?
Yes, it is a very busy Friday.

well, no expertise here, but holder's knees are always down when recieving a snap, which would make it seem like if that wasn't the case, the ball would always be dead before the kick... just my logical guess...

Yes we thought of this... So the question becomes, Is there a special clause addressing this? or is it just an accepted flaw to the hard line rules?

I heard announcers talking about it, and. yeah, there is a rule that the holder can have the knee down, then get up and run the ball. It's a special rule just for field goals.

It is written in the rule book, I'm not sure of the number, but the holder is excluded from this rule as he is receiving the snap from center.

high school rule Rule 4-2-2-a1
Exceptions
The ball remains live if , at the snap, a place kick holder with his knee(s) on the ground and with a teammate in kicking position catches or recovers the snap while his knee(s) is on the ground and places the ball for a kick, or if he rises to advance, hand, kick or pass.
I assume the college rule is very similar
