That is terrible that someone would treat people that badly. I have to be honest and say I bought my car from Des Moines Chrystler under a guy named Jeremy and everything went great. I never met anyone else. Jeremy was honest, and gave me a good price and after two years, I've only had to put in only 400 bucks of work into it (oil changes/break pads ect.). That being said, their business can obviously change their culture in two years, so I'm in no way arguing that the story isn't true with the family from Urbandale.

"The New England Patriots: As annoying as the Yankess, just with 23 fewer titles."
This sounds like something Dahl Ford would do in Davenport. My dad bought a Taurus SHO from them 10-15 years ago (to teach me how to drive a stick - man that was a fun car), basically, none of us will ever buy a vehicle from Dahl ever again. One day dad took the car in there to have something serviced (I can't remember what), later in the day the clutch spring goes bad and the car ends up back at Dahl, and the service dept, in the most condescending, snickering, "Ha-Ha!" tone possible, "Back so soon?" (or something along those lines) My dad doesn't take to treatment like that well at all. But that's just the beginning. A couple of years later when my dad went to trade it in (for a Dodge Caravan, no less), he was nearly sued for title fraud. Sometime from the very beginning of the initial purchase Dahl either messed up or screwed with the title, and the "actual miles" box and actual miles got screwed around somehow. After throwing a bunch of lawyers around the situation got cleared up, but we now refuse to have anything to do with that dealer. It was so bad that dad actually sold his shares in Ford over it (yes, we know that dealers actually have little to do with the corporation in the grand scheme of things, but Dahl Ford was one of Ford's "premiere dealers," similar to Chrysler's "5 star" program, though I forget what it was called. Dad's opinion is if corporate thought so highly of a dealership that jerked us around the way they did he didn't want to own a piece of a company with that ownership philosophy)
Actually, my family has had great luck with GMs (well, excluding that whole Vega incident ) as long as the mileage was under 100,000. That probably has to do with the fact that we seem to continue buying the small engine GMs (the small V6s or the V4s). Historically, the larger the GM engine, the better it is and the longer it lasts. Currently I'm driving a 3.8L Supercharged V6 Pontiac Grand Prix that is inching closer to 35,000 miles. So far the only problems I've had with it is a couple of blown signal lights and a faulty oxygen sensor - that's it (well, if you don't count the floor mat on the driver's side that had developed a crease in it). It's by far and away the best vehicle I've ever owned. The only thing I wish was better about my car was the gas mileage (but at the time I sacrificed fuel mileage for power. I still don't consider 19/26 all THAT bad) and not having to put premium gas in it (I realize that I can put regular unleaded in it, but that just takes power out of the engine and makes the fuel mileage worse than it already is). My wife and I probably have to go car shopping this spring to replace her '04 Escort, and two vehicles that we're strongly considering are GMs - a Pontiac G6 and a Saturn Aura (basically the same vehicle) due to the track record we've had with GMs.
Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice? Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
I recently bought a Jeep there about 3 months ago and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I didn't have a "bad" experience per se, they just weren't very friendly...actually they were pretty rude. The only reason I went there was they were having a sale and the price on the Jeep was significantly less than anything else I'd seen after looking around for a month or 2 before that.
Their finance manager was a jerk. He actually said to me "Why are you buying a car so late in the day? We are getting ready to close." He said this even though I drove off the lot with 30 minutes until closing time. The whole time, he just seemed like it was a big inconvenience that I was there.
Luckily I knew exactly what I wanted and was only there for about 2 horus. I definitely wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

He/she should have left out the part about the autistic kid. The horrible and incompetent service experience speaks for itself, so when we have to read about the "bad person" sob story, it detracts from the original point.
I can't help but disregard emails/articles/etc when they read like that. I can't imagine a credible source behind those words; I just see one that wants to embellish for reader sympathy. Although it's not like chain emails are typically credible in the first place. ;)
I know quite a few people who have dealt with Des Moines Chrysler(incl CY ST8T) and I know enough from those experiences to know I will never set foot in one of Gabus's dealership. Even if the experience isn't totally factual about her experience with him and her kids, from what I've heard he's a royal D-bag.
I am a GM fan 100%. I have had 4 4x4 S-10 ZR2's with the 4.3 vortec V6 and other then one time, I can pretty much tear them apart and put them back together with my eyes closed. Current truck is a 98 with 186,000 miles on it and looks and runs like brand new. In a year I'll be driving a Colorado Z71. We did just buy a Honda Odyssey from Holmes and was very pleased with the service we got there.
I have only purchased Hondas for myself. I like my CR-V, but would love one with the new body style.
Ripvdub has a Wrangler. He works really close to our house or it wouldn't be practical. It is so fun in the summer! (He had a blazer before that and we had some electrical problems with it.)
We haven't had problems with either one. I have bought at Honda of Ames (before it was sold to the new owners, Holmes, and George White). George White was the hardest to negotiate with, but I am a hard a**, so that probably not a reflection on them.

So, the next time I need something done to my ZR2 you can do it for a fair and reasonable price?
I had a bad experience at a different Gabus lot. I tried a number of times to get it resolved via phone and letters and never got one response. I ended up just writing the screw job off... On a side note, Charlie is so freakin cheap that he takes the batteries out of his hearing aids when he is not 'using' them... What an old coot. I will also verify that Gene is a bit of an ***, having dealt with him on non-car related items. He resents the hell out of the fact that his dad still hangs around and so he's not really the big cheese yet. :)
so even though the id is #26 you subtract one for Jeremy?
- keep.
Jeremy's not a Member of the site, he's the owner and founder with ID #1. Every account after his are member accounts who joined this little Choo Choo who could. When I first signed up I was listed on my profile screen as member #111 even though I have user ID #112. The same with BigBake, when he signed up, his old profile screen listed him as#25, thus his use of that as his Sig.
