Sign the Petition for Lucca!
The NCAA has declared Cyclone freshman Lucca Staiger ineligible for the 2007-2008 basketball season.
Staiger Ineligible According To NCAA - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - Iowa State Cyclones Sports
An online petition has been created to overturn the ruling as it is blatantly unfair and appears to have been made with no regard for the student-athlete's well-being.
I wanted to re post this petition in its own thread as it is buried in the other main thread. I am not sure if petitions ever work, but its a small way to show support for Lucca and your disapproval of the NCAA clearinghouse decision.
Reinstate Lucca Staiger
There are nearly 400 signatures now.
Let's show our support for Lucca and Cyclone Basketball.
Re: Sign the Petition for Lucca!
I don't understand the point of online peitions. We have no say in these things. I'm sure ISU will petition the ruling and it wouldn't surprise me if we could get Lucca back yet this season.

I agree. I know for a fact that in politics, a signed petition (no matter how many people sign it) is equivelant to one person sending an email about an issue. This may not be the same for athletics, but it is certainly the case in politics.

Then don't participate.
Re: Sign the Petition for Lucca!
I just posted this in the other thread, but... I would rather sign a petition, send an e-mail, send a fax, etc. then to do nothing. Doing nothing is not the answer.
Re: Sign the Petition for Lucca!
There is also some function in showing the media that there is widespread general interest in the topic. As mass media now is a commercial enterprise, the more people they think are interested, the more coverage it will get.
Re: Sign the Petition for Lucca!
This post made my day. The fact that there are people out there that have the time and effort to put something like this together really makes me giggle. Keep up the good "work"!

How did you escape the politics cave?
Re: Sign the Petition for Lucca!
Someone should create a Facebook group getting more students to sign.

IMO, I dobut the petition will do much to influence the decision of the NCAA, but it might have a more profound effect on Lucca himself and the team to see the support of the Cyclone fans.

We should see if Roger Sprague will write some emails to the higher-ups. We know his prose is so hypnotic, they will immediately be swayed. (Or sway"ed)
