I sat in section 20, and was wishing I had a prison shank to stick in the throat of some idiots around me. I'm entirely serious about that. When it went to overtime, there was a guy in front of me who sat down the whole time, kept ******** about how we were going to lose, and seriously told a cheering fan to shut up.

I hope this guy doesn't have season tickets in front of me. Because he sucks, sucks, sucks.

There were some grumblers in our section as well. One old dude even told these two younger guys to sit because he could not see. We gave him the business and told the kids to stand the rest of the game. Why would anyone want to sit the whole game? We do need to be better fans. Let's keep working on it. Maybe we can change it. Go Cyclones!!!

Wow...if I had someone that bad sitting near me...I do fear my trip back to Ames would been in the back of a blue-and-white.

The student section was great last night.....there were a few people that had some doubts and closed their eyes for every kick, but still awsome.

And I thought I had some bad folks in my section. I think I would come unglued if someone told me to sit down at a football game or to stop cheering.

The student section (where I was) did a great job of getting into the game when we needed it, but IMO still needs to improve. I look around and behind me and I see only about 30% cheering. However, when we were strong I would say almost everyone was making some kind of noise- which is what we need EVERY play.

And then, there are still those students who call for Mac's head, yell out a player f'in sucks when he makes a mistake. But then again that happens everywhere, although it seemed I had one too many of them next to me.

Chizik: "One thing that I’d encourage our fans…I want them to be the loudest stadium in the Big 12. I don’t care…I want Jack Trice stadium to be the loudest in the Big 12 and I think that creates homefield advantage.... I want to stress to everyone…I want this place to be juiced up. They bought 36,000 season tickets so there is a passion there…don’t hide it…let it out. I want there to be a passion in the stadium."

I thought as a student section we did pretty good. I was worried with all the talk about tons of tickets remaining, and stuff, but we packed our section, and most of the game I couldn't even hear myself yelling, and I yelled so hard that my stomach muscles still hurt this morning. If the rest of the stadium starts/is making the kind of noise we were, JTS is going to be one tough place to play.

I'll order up another shot of sin, I'm running twice as hard into the wind, I'll hitch a ride when the next one comes in, fell off the wagon again...

Why is it...we have zero...not a single post titled..."Why we won tonight?"

Are we that much of a negative, pathetic fan base that we can't at least celebrate a win for 5 minutes?
Mainly because it would be a horrible start to the season to lose the first game, no matter who we are playing against....USC, ND, Texas, Toledo..whoever. It is absolutely imperative that this team gets off to a good start with a win with having so many young players. That is why there are posts addressing "why we almost lost tonight".

Right...it would have been very bad had we started with a loss. But...we didn't! So celebrate the damn win people!

Saw the replay on Mediacom. Did you know they searched out the most pathetic shots of the Clone fans when things were going bad. Part of the fan stigma is perpetuated by Medicom screen shots. The fans looked in shock, huge disappointment in their eyes, worry beads. Few shots of fans showing optimism. So Cedar Rapids Hawk fans watching Mediacom probably think our fans were bandwagon types.
Kudos for student section. They came through loud and clear. Anyone skipping classes today?

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

Bryceman, you must have had a great post-game tailgate, as well. I didn't know it was possible to slur one's words while typing.

I guess it's to be expected

I was thinking about this more and I have come to the following conclusion:

As the Cyclones continue to get better, we will get a bigger fan base. Unfortunately many of the first to come will likely be bandwagoneers and the less desirable types of fans from other programs.

The easily converted are not the most desirable of fans, and probably represent a large number of the folks around you who were complaining.

One of the drawbacks of an improving program.
