High School Playoffs !
So who is ready for the high school playoffs ?
Although my sons go to school at Johnston, I decided to go see my home town CMB (I am from Baxter)game at PCM (Monroe), which CMB won 42-14. With that win they will be hosting a playoff game on Wednesday night. CMB, has a pretty good running back, not sure if he would be Div I material or not, but he is an explosive runner, and fun to watch. I sure wish Johnston would have made the playoffs, but they lost a couple of games, down the stretch, that hurt them, so they will be sitting at home this year. I sure hope the Johnston kicker ends up at Iowa State.

I don't get how Johnston (7-2, 2 losses by combined 7 points) don't make the playoffs and yet East does when they are 6-3. Johnston's 2 losses were to SEP and Ankeny who have combined record of 16-1. Doesn't make sense to me

DM East got an auto bid because they won their conference (CIML-Metro).
Ames' win over Fort Dodge was the final key that let Waukee in.

It came down to Johnston and Waukee both 7-2 in the end.

Re: High School Playoffs !
Yes, DM east went in as conf champs.
All conf champs get in, and then they go by record. After redord there is a point system based on wins over opponents with a winning record or with a losing record, so its possible that some games that neither team has a shot of making the playoffs are impacting the playoff race during the last week of the season, if that makes sense.
Dumb-*** Marty Tirell kept talking last night about the amount of points Waukee scoring during the game to give them playoff points, when the points scored have no impact on the playoff points.
If you are going to host a HS football show at least have the slightest clue what you are talking about.

Cyfreddy Is Woodley still the coach at Johnston? He was a great coach where I went to high school, at Beckman, and I was looking forward to playing for him, but then he took the job out there. Beckman had some great football teams and a couple of playoff runs under him, and I was extremely disappointed to miss the chance to play for him, but I understand the circumstances (more money, bigger school, etc.). Just checking up on him.

Re: High School Playoffs !
M-Town and Waukee essentially had a stronger SOS than Johnston and DM Lincoln. The point system in 4A is fun.

Re: High School Playoffs !
Woodley is still at J-town.
He has got some HUGE guys on his lines.

Re: High School Playoffs !
Both my high school teams made it in this year. My alma mater, Newell-Fonda and Newton, where my girls used to attend. In fact, our German high school, Hohenfels, plays American football and they've made the European playoffs as well.
Cool!

I always thought that the running backs were very underrated in his offense--they never got much credit, but always put up some HUGE numbers.

Bkurt,
I played for Woodley in his last year at Beckman. Stub linebacker and right guard. He did have some size on the line. Aside from my position we had an average o-lineman weight of about 240-250. The only bigger team we ever faced was North Fayette. Our problem was depth. We ran 8 guys both ways. When did you graduate from Beckman?
p.s. - I also wish Woodley would have stayed. The coaching situation has not been good at Beckman. Too many coaches who wanted to play an 80's style game with 80% running and 20% passing.

I graduated in '05, so both of my years of varsity football were under the great Mike Cooper. Duggan in the middle was essentially the same thing as Cooper--lots of option/veer/I-formation running. Scherrmann and Brownie got run into the ground those years, and there was actually a decent amount of good athletes at the receiver/DB positions, so the passing game would have been there.
