Those yards would be more impressive if they were accompanied by a few more points and wins...

I agree but what's he suppose to do when he's not surrounded with much talent? Who off the offense last year or this year will play on Sunday's? Todd Blythe maybe? Nobody else. Give Bret a big time offensive line, a Mike Hart at RB, or a pair of gamebreaker WR's, or a kicker and the wins would have been there. Considering he had to learn a new offense this year I think he's done a nice job for the most part.
As for the 2 minute drill. The playcalling has focused a lot on short and intermediate routes all year. Bret has to run the plays that are called. If any blame goes around on this, talk to McFarland.
So, you're saying that all Meyer needs to be a great QB is a good everyone else? Aren't great QB's supposed to be able to perform well with even with sub-par teammates? This argument is flawed.Quote:

Hell, give Shaggy a good enough offense and defense that we don't need to depend on his kicks all the time, and he'll be an all-star too!
I didn't mean Bret needed a great everything else, just one of those things I mentioned. He's had none of the things I listed above except Todd Blythe and people here dog him all the time anyway. Bret Meyer isn't a great QB, he needs help from his team. Guys like Seneca Wallace (one every 10-15 years type of player here) can make crazy plays and make up for lack of talent but those players don't grow on trees. All I'm saying is Bret had very little help around him the last couple years. Atleast his first two years he had a solid defense and a young Todd Blythe that nobody knew about. Last year he had no running game, a bad defense, the worst offensive line in the Big 12, and injuries to his WRs. Most QB's tend to struggle with those things happening.
This year, we have a solid running game, solid WR's, and a young line. Now, why aren't those W's, when you think (I used to as well) would allow him to get them, aren't there? I actually think that Meyer needs solidity in the team in all facets (all D and all O), in order to win, hence why we have 1 win this year, and had them his soph year.
Frosh year excluded because Flynn was also running the QB position.
Another reason Meyer thrived his sophomore and freshman seasons was because our defense was money at getting turnovers. Both years when we had stretches of games where we won 4 in a row, our defense was able to get a ton of turnovers to give our offense a short field, especially in 2005. Remember all those defensive touchdowns and short fields? Made things a little easier, I'm guessing.
Three more games to try to look off the receivers. We finally threw some screen passes and tried to hit Brakema.
If you look at the stats, yards per pass play was same as that for high powered Mssouri. Perhaps the long pass has left the college scene.
I'd say, without mentioning all the various other (obvious) considerations--that something is better than nothing with a chance at making a play for the 1st down (yards after catch) or out of bounds. If everything 10 yards + is covered on this down, you can expect the same on the next 3 downs.
A 1:45 scoring drive is better than a 0:15 turn the ball over on downs (assuming you have 1:45).
Ask Brian Griese that question and you will get a good answer.
Instead of taking the 5-10 yard plays the defense was giving him all day, he decided to air it out to the endzone. And he got picked of 3 times in the endzone + another time.
I think that Meyer's decision making has improved a bunch from earlier in the season.
I agree there is not much talent on the line. My problem was this: Just throw the ball in the flippin endzone and see what happens. That is better than a 5 yard slant with 25 seconds and no timeouts. You have to take a shot. If it's picked off then it's picked off. I can live with that.
If you are a single guy and Jessica Beil is sitting at the bar by herself. You have to go up and talk to her and see if you can't hook up with her. You don't just leave her there and keep walking by. You have to get denied. You just have to.
