2-minute drill

Can anyone at all explain to me the logic of throwing 5-yard completions over the middle, down 2 touchdowns, with no timeouts, with less than 2 minutes to play? Do we have any plays for 10-15 yard outs to the sidelines? I just don't understand. We had plenty of time when we took over down 2 TDs to score fast, onside kick, and score again, but it seemed like we were playing for only 1 score the whole time...and we still couldn't do it. Is this play calling, or poor decision-making on Meyer's part? Hard to tell listening to the radio.

Has Meyer been accurate throwing the ball down field the last 2 years. We can't complete a pass down field. Completely sad considering everyone else in the conference can.

I'm guessing Missouri was playing a four deep at that point. It's either throw it short, or lob it up for a prayer.

I'd be mighty surprised if we weren't running first down routes. I'm guessing Meyer just took the easiest pass each time, regardless.

Well how come when we play prevent we give up 15 to 20 yards at a time... But when people play prevent on us we only gain 5 yards at a time???


Can anyone answer that

I hate to say it but you both are probably right....

We can't execute the deep routes well, blocking is the biggest issue. Heard it right from the horse's mouth (Chizik).

Still no reason not to be chucking it up in the end zone a few times when you get within reasonable range and down by two scores with not much time left. Horrible decisions at the end of the game, even though tying that game was a high improbability.

We also used all three of our timeouts in the second half during deadball situations. Our coaches will have to work on how to better management the clock at the end of the games. While Meyer did a nice job all game of hitting the open guy (as long as his pass didn't get knocked down), he needed to take a chance and throw some deep ones in the fourth quarter. What good does it do to score with 10 seconds left when you still need another score?

With our team it may have been improbable, but I've watched enough games this year to know that a 2 touchdown lead is not as safe as it used to be (BC-VT and Texans-Titans come to mind).

That was the issue today, and Meyer continued to lock on only one receiver. He also threw late to most receivers, not readying when they opened up, but waiting until he saw them open. By then, he missed the real opportunities.

Yeah, the guy's a real stiff. Only the second Big 12 QB to throw for more than 9,000 yards in his career.

Yeah and the only QB in recent history to tank his Jr. and Sr. year after solid Fr and Sph seasons. Yay for 9,000 yards, sure didn't result in wins.... This stat proves nothing...
