Question to ponder: would DMac go back to Iowa?
Obviously there is a next-to-zero chance Iowa would want Dan McCarney as their head coach. I think they'd keep Kirk on before they'd hire Mac as HC. But, here's my hypothetical scenario: Kirk Ference is talked into resigning and moving on, and the new coach need to build his staff. In assembling his staff, he asks Dan McCarney to be his defensive coordinator. Does anyone think he'd do it?
On the one hand, he was Iowa State's head coach for 12 years, and established himself by beating Iowa 6 times. But on the other hand, Iowa gave him his start, serving on the Iowa coaching staff under Hayden Fry for quite a few years. He seems comfortable in his current role at USF, but if Iowa were to "call him home", would he accept?

I have an idea. Let's please start another thread about Dan McCarney. I haven't seen one for a few days.

Likely Ferentz would be retained as his offensive coordinator and all those recruits decommitting from Nebraska would suddenly be hawkeyes. Plus Mac would tap into that southern florida talent like no other with an instant pipeline based on how well he has coached USF this year and his name recognition in the state of Florida. Can you say BCS?

Ferentz isn't going anywhere. If anything, I could see Dan going there to be D-Coordinator. With the young talent they have on D, Dan could probably mold them into a machine. A lot of Hawk fans I know seem to think the freshman like Clayburn, Bullard, Coleman and Hunter are better than the seniors playing now. After watching them today, I was impressed. Especially with that Clayburn.

Nope not a chance, never in a million years. Now way hawk fans would settle for Dan. If Ferentz were to leave, and he won't, they will think they deserve Nick Saban, or Pete Carrol.

I have heard from several people on this board that McCarney is up for every open job this season and some that aren't even open...teams just looking to upgrade. If he decides that jobs like Nebraska aren't sweet enough there is always the NFL.

How many years before ISU program is back to where McCarney had it going consistently to bowl games 4 out of 6 years and winning 6-8 games?

Actually another Dan thread is better than a political diatribe.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

What happened to all of the talk about McCarney's great impact at USF (in his long 6 months there)...oh yeah, that's right...they have now lost two in a row!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -
