Why delete, What trouble could lucca get into for that? Well i guess he already got suspended for 1 year for not doing anything wrong, so who knows!

I’m not sure this is quite accurate. It is a violation to use a student athlete name or likeness to sell or promote a commercial product. That is not the same as saying you cannot put a students likeness on a t-shirt if it is not to promote a commercial product. From the compliance office brochure:

You may not use the name or picture or appearance of an enrolled student-athlete to advertise, recommend, promote sales or use of a commercial product or service of any kind. Any use of a student-athlete’s name, picture or appearance must receive authorization from the Compliance Office.

If anyone want to make t-shirts to support Lucca, contact the compliance office first to see if your idea is ok (515-294-1798).

I would not interpret the rule that way. The intent seems to be to prevent student athletes from being used to advertise existing commercial products, and hence preserve their amateur status. However, a call to the compliance office tomorrow morning would yield a more definite answer.

I would guess that the seller of the product would also not be able to make much if any profit. If there was not profit being made though I would think that there would be a first amendment right to make shirts to express your view, just as you would have a right to speak your views or make signs that express them.

Checking with the compliance office is undoubtedly the way to go though.

I think most of you aren't taking into account the NCAA's "We Make Stuff Up In Order To Look Like We're Doing Something In Order To Punish Unpopular Programs While Letting "National" Programs Get Away With Murder" clause.
