You got me laughing with this one. I would love to see this happen, although we would get screwed long term.

Re: Staiger Appeal
If we played him anyways, we would forfeit every game he participated in for having an "ineligible" player on the court...this nearly happened to Texas Tech in the Big 12 Tournament against us when they had Tony Battie and Cory Carr. They had one or two players they didn't know were ineligible in the game against us and didn't realize it or find out until halftime...we ended out winning that game, but had we lost on the scoreboard, we would have won by forfeit and played the next day anyways...that being said the NCAA is nothing but a bunch of suits and ties on power trips that are totally out of touch with reality, and only concerned about one thing ($$$)...Kelvin Sampson, Reggie Bush, Lester Earl-the list goes on and on and the hypocrisies are almost outrageous if they weren't so sad. Instead of using common sense on this, and doing the right thing to make life better for a student-athlete that has done NOTHING wrong...they will stick with their stupid one year suspension; mark it down...they are way too proud of themselves to admit any wrongdoing and risk admitting they may have made a mistake. That would just be too much for their inflated ego's to handle...trust me, we will not end out happy when all is said and done on this.

But, maybe there is one more option outside the NCAA. I would hope that the university or Lucca/family could take this to court and sue for his eligibility back. From what we have seen, I don't see how a jury or judge could not overturn this case, simply because the ruling is retroactive (it was not a rule at the time of incidence)

Re: Staiger Appeal
Lucca was actually playing to go to school when said infraction occurred. Absolute crap.

Re: Staiger Appeal
Why do we keep saying the NCAA made a mistake? According to their new rule Lucca is ineligible, along with every other kid playing on a European team this year. If this rule stands, there will be no more foreign students on NCAA teams. The problem is, in Lucca's case, let the punishment fit the "crime". A year suspension for an Ex-post facto law is an injustice.

So would you say they made a mistake suspending him for a full year, or would you say they did the right thing because it's their new rule??? If he was suspended for a couple or a few games, people would be annoyed, but not this upset...I think everyone is basically echoing your statement..."let the punishment fit the crime". The fact is the only crime he committed is being guilty by association, and the fact that they suspended him for a full year for that, is a mistake in my book...a big mistake.

Re: Staiger Appeal
i wouldnt even call him guily by association. the word guilty should not be used at all to describe lucca in this case.

Re: Staiger Appeal
Worse, he didn't do anything wrong when his actions took place. What if they lowered the speed limit on your street and then wrote you a ticket because two years before the change took place you, going the then posted speed limit, had gone faster than the new speed limit? I'm amazed at how many levels of "wrong" this ruling violates!

There is a filter for certain four letter words for a reason. Trying to get around the filter will be edited. I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone. -

Here's a good read.
Makes you feel even worse for Lucca. DesMoinesRegister.com -
Re: Staiger Appeal
Here's a big surprise...
Phone calls by the Register to the NCAA requesting information about the new amateur certification process were not returned.

Re: Staiger Appeal
[quote=travman23;222924]Ok, here's something. How about all these summer league teams that have sponsors and some even have NBA players on them. For instance the Capitol City league. While our players don't get paid for playing on the team we had Kyle Korver in the league last year. I doubt he was getting paid by the sponsors though but same kind of deal, he's a professional and collegiate and HS players were playing with him on the same team.
Shhhh! Don't let the NCAA hear about that, they might suspend the whole team since they played in the CCL. And are all of these leagues around the country going to have to stop allowing any players who ever recieved money in any pro or semi-pro league? Bad news for a town that is about to get a D-league team.
