Has anybody seen this? It was on the college basketball section of SI: SI.com - NCAA Basketball - NCAA bans new WSU player - Friday October 26, 2007 5:22PM
Apparently there is a basketball player at Washington State who played on a club team where a couple players (not him) received cash stipends that the NCAA deemed were above necessary expenses. Now the NCAA is considering that "professional" experience and he has been declared ineligible!
I, for one, find that completely ridiculous that the NCAA would do that. I hope Cougar fans rally in support of this young man, and maybe start an online petition and facebook page to bring some national attention to this unfortunate situation. I can't believe it has taken this long for this travesty to come to light. Where's Greg Doyel when you need him?
I wish I could better express sarcasm through my keyboard. In case anyone is thinking I've really been living under a rock these past few days, of course I realize this was Lucca's teammate. I find it very surprising... surprising? no, just disappointing, that this 2nd page article on SI.com is all the attention given to this matter and it only talks about the WSU player. |
Patrick who?

We have a player suspended and we still don't get any respect. Heck he was the first one to be suspended too... Why don't we get any love.

This story broke at the same time that news of Lucca Staiger's ineligibility came out. These two players are in exactly the same boat because they were teammates on that German club team that was allegedly "professional." Hopefully, if the fans of both Washington State and Iowa State make enough noise in the media, this story won't go away until the NCAA is forced to deal with it. | | |

I agree, both schools and if there are any others need to ban together to get this in the media big time. All of the major sport outlets need to make this a big deal, because it is. I've sent some emails, but does anyone have any other ideas?

I hope both schools fight this together, but I really have this feeling that they are going to make an example out of ALL players involved. This is the first time this has happened so I think the NCAA is going to take full advantage of it and use their power... Specially since its ISU and WSU and not Indiana or Duke..

Yeah they are, but who would get more attention?? A team like WSU that steps up once and a while or Indiana. Sampson gets away with murder there.

Yeah if this happend to a big recruit for Duke or NC or Florida, tOSU, Indiana, etc, it would be HUGE news, but we are ISU, we get no respect. Not that we deserve much after the last few years.

I take that to mean he has been quiet as a bird or he is chirping his head off????
Does anyone know what the NCAA limits are? Would $1 make a player ineligible?
