Pass rush

IMO lack of pass rush is why Hopkins had all those receptions and why Toledo was in the game.

He had way too much time to throw.

Berryman, why o' why did you go to that bar???

Yeah...having Jason around would make a big difference. So would Eboh.

Can't dwell on it though...just need to work past it. We'll be a stronger, better team for it once they overcome the odds.

At least there were some glimpses of hope in the pass rush coming with the sacks towards the end. But you are right, a lot of work still needs to be done here. But did anyone actually expect this not to be the case. I would have been shocked if I was impressed with the DLine after last night.

We have to get to the QB quicker or it will be a long season. Too many good QB's on our schedule for them to have all day. However, I was pleased to see that when it mattered most at end of regulation our true freshman stepped up with 2 monster sacks.

Remember Toledo has a veteran offensive line and their left tackle is the ...oh come on brain wake up.... can't remember it xxxx watch list for best in America....Not best in MAC..best in America.

However, I too was wishing for Berryman last night there were several plays where a little more speed from Mooreheads spot (Jasons old spot) would have made the difference.

We have two weeks to fix it....

This does need to improve or our young secondary will continue to get picked apart. If Parker can get his motor going like he did late in regulation more often...I'll be much happier.

I'd also love to see Rubin "bust" through the line and flatten some unlucky QB. :Guns:

Couldn't think of it so I had to look it up. This season John Greco has been named 3rd Team Preseason All-America by Athlon Sports in their preseason preview. He was also named to the Lombardi Award watch list for the nation's best down lineman/linebacker. His teammates voted him as one of two offensive captains, despite the fact that he is only a junior.

The offensive line we faced last night is one of the better ones we'll face this year.

I expect to see a lot more pressure on the QB when we face UNLV on the 9th.

Yea, without those 2 sacks by Parker the game might been lost in regulation. They knocked them out of field goal range.

Also another thing I was really impressed with on Parker was his ability to read the screen pass to the RB. On one early in the first half he almost picked off the pass and ended up forcing an incompletion. Then later in the game he was right there to tackle the RB for no gain right after he caught it. He seems to be really smart as well as athletic.

Well, good, maybe we'll take them to OT too.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

The point is that we have to rebuild. Shouldn't there be plans for replacing seniors??? Berryman is a different case, he screwed up, so that is a different case. But Lord knows that Mac has been he coach for long enough that there shouldn't be this drastic of a drop off.
Games are won and lost in the trenches folks, and out trenches are not what I would call a strength of this team. the blame for this lies directly with the recruiting, and that seems to be handled by the coaching staff, at least last I heard it was anyway.
I understand what the program was like when Mac got here. If this were his eighth year, I would have patience, but he has recruited THREE FULL CLASSES and we basically are starting over on defense. Doesn't that bother anyone???
BTW, I really didn't think that we looked that fast last night. I thought this was the year when we would have the speed to kill, I hope that I misjudged it, but I didn't see blazing speed out there.

Ohio State has to rebuild, USC has to rebuild, I don't see anyone calling for their coaches to get canned. Rebuilding is a part of FB, get over it.

Young guys need time to gel on defense... so the good thing about this game was 1. we won... 2. we have a lot of tape to look at to show the guys what they need to do differently.

We in a way are kinda luck to have such a long close game so we get to correct all of these mistakes sooner... it's almost like having a second game already.

Wait till we start over on the offensive line next year. Looks like everyone has problems at times.
More Rants:
Callahan replaced all but 8 of his group with West coasters. Now he saved his job by picking up Sam Keller as a one year qb foir next year. Bill could not recruit a qb as a keeper besides Zac Taylor.
Remember that Ron Prince fired every old qb.
Dan Hawkins is still thinking about who will be his qb. Yes, a problem.
Pinkel lost Josh Freeman to NE who lost him to KSU
Moving Ames to Texas to recruit good players would be a lot easier on McC.
The way I see it - it is hard to recruit eastern Iowa players to ISU.
At least Des Moines only has Drake to recruit against.
If you want to see fan ********, you should have lived in Lincoln after the Joe Dailey 6-5 fiasco season. The problem was the recruits were going down in quality. So Solich goes 10-3 and gets fired.
