Bowl projections

A little freaking early for this.....but oh well, here they are. Notice the Motor City bowl has turned into a VERY prestigious event this year.

Re: Bowl projections

I will bet my Lenovo X61 tablet that is in my hands right now that iowa doesn't go to that Motor City bowl. We have been saying they would be going to that bowl for a few years now and it just doesn't happen. They are like Micheal Meyers of football teams. As soon as you kill them they come back. And the rest of the big 10 is a bunch of blonde chicks running around the movie set which doesn't help either. At least there are more big 10 teams that will be eligbile this year and they made the rule that if a team is 6-6 then it has to get picked after a 7-5 team i believe. Someone might want to correct me on that. Now if that rule is correct then what will probably happen is the Big 10 will have too many bowls teams and then Iowa will get an at large bid to fill and ACC/ SEC bowl game which would be oustanding for them. That is what I am taking to that bank. We would never hear the end of that one.

Big stadium. Tough crowd. National TV.Played the Superbowl in Detoit. Nice fit for the Michigan State Massacre Team.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

How bad is the Big 10 when they have 4 teams projected to finish behind Iowa?

Re: Bowl projections

I look at it this way - they are the only conference with a problem of having 7 bowls and too many bowl eligible teams.

I don't care how "weak" a conference is - the MAC, MWC, Big East, SEC, ACC, Big12, Pac Ten, Sun Belt, and Conference USA don't have this problem.

While the BigTen may not be super-strong, the fact that a 6-6 team may be left out of one of 7 bowl tie-in slots speaks volumes to how very "not weak" the conference actually is.

No, it really doesn't say that at all... It says the big 10 loaded up on cupcakes in the non-conference season then 10 of the 11 teams are so bad they can't figure out who is supposed to win...

Actually, the SEC played more D-IAA teams that the Big Ten did, and I dare you to name a BCS conference that loads up with "quality" OOC opponents.

I don't know about the BCS conferences, but I'll have to admit that ISU is guilty of scheduling at least one major OOC cupcake for the past several years - Do I need to name them?

Feel free to mock EIU - JCloned

Really?! If you don't think the conference is weak this year, you have your blinders on. The Big 10 has 3 teams in the Top 25. One of those will fall out this week after they lose to OSU, another 1 lost to a Division 1AA team, and the other one is being talked about as the weakest #1 team in the history of college football.

Many of those 6-6 "bowl eligible" teams do this: Load up on cupcakes and go 4-0 or 3-1 in the non-conference. Go 2-6 or 3-5 in the conference. It's not really that hard. Iowa schedules layup games against NIU, Syracuse, and Western Michigan. That's 3 wins there. They play Minnesota who is worse than those cupcakes. That's 4 wins. So really all they have to do is beat to bottom feeders in the Big 10 to go to a bowl.

And this scenario is the same for 3 or 4 Big 10 teams. Very, very weak.

Consistently mediocre?

How about remarkably average?

Bingo...... Ladies and Gentlemen we have a winner...

Seriously... All teams accross the country do this. The lower teams play these games for the money. The big boys play these for hopefully a guarenteed win. Didn't happen that way for ISU this year but they were hoping for the exact same thing.

In my opinion 6-6 shouldn't be in a bowl and I hate to say it but I don't think 7-5 should really be in either unless that gets you the conference title.

Its sad that people think Iowa is a good team cause they beat all cupcakes and might get to a bowl... It really shows just how TERRIBLE the Big 10 is.

Cbell

3 am in Iowa City 2006, hoping for the repeat this year.

Re: Bowl projections

Most teams at least schedule ONE good non conference game... Sure, for most teams in the Big 10 that was supposed to be Notre Dame but Ohio State didn't schedule ANYONE tough for non conference...

At this point, I think Baylor on a neutral site would be favored over Minnesota, Iowa, Northwestern, Indiana, Michigan State and possibly Purdue.

Do you just make this stuff up? The Big 12 has 7 bowl tie-ins, 6 teams that have already qualified, three team that need one more win, and one that needs two. The Big 10+1 has the exact same numbers.

The basic truth of college football these days is it's really easy to qualify for a bowl. Four cupcakes and find two conference wins and you're there.
