A very, very interesting woman.
Boy, hookin' up the old work computer to an Al Jazeera site requires more stones than I thought. I think I'll wait and check this one at home!
I thought what she had to say was very insightful. She appears to be a very educated woman. I really hope nothing bad happens to her.
That is a amazing watch, good for anyone. Atleast there is one person over there with their heads on straight. And I am sure there are more. It is just to bad that it is common place that over in the middle east, that people like this are killed for thinking that way.
The question still remains is there any hope for changing their way of thinking? I see this as the only way some form of peace can come to light. And we are not talking just of one nation, but alot of countries in the middle east. This just isn't something that can be ignored. Not something people of the world say that, it is not bothering me so why should we bother.
The biggest shame of it all is that there is no easy answer or fix to the situation.
Had no idea what I was going to see on this link but this woman really speaks the truth. Didn't know they would allow anyone with these views to speak out like this, much less a woman. Hope she watches her back. This is worth watching.
Did you like how the other guy just wouldnt even hear her out? He automatically dismisses her views. Ignorant.
I know. She has two strikes against her in their eyes. 1st - Shes a woman 2nd - She backs the western world with her views.
She promotes peace and they hate that. I wonder if more people like her get on tv and say these things, more people will back her and make a stand. Its amazing how that region is run so heavily by the militant minority. It happens in Africa as well. Centuries of genocide scares folks, but some day they will have to take a stand againt these people.
Great find and thanks for sharing. When I clicked on the link I expected a moderate Muslim. I was not expecting an atheist to be given a forum on Al Jazeera.
You'll also note she was an activist atheist "tolerant" of personal belief. Something I do not encounter, that often.
I was interested to find out more about who this was, and I discovered that Wafa Sultan is a US citizen who was speaking from her hometown of Los Angeles.
The video is still just as interesting, but it does put her ability to be forthright in some context.
Thanks Herbie, that was awesome. I'm glad to find out the woman lives in L.A., maybe she can be an influencial voice of reason if they continue to let her speak her mind.
It's one of the few things I got "from work" that I can post. Al Jazeera is working pretty hard, lately, to bring up their standards of journalism. If I were going to predict, I think they are well on their way to being a more reliable source than CNN/MSNBC/ or any of the other major news sources.
The reason: The Al Jazeera folks are genuinely interested in being perceived as fair. They know where they came from, and acknowledge that, and know they need to improve to continue to grow as a news agency. The major news networks appear to think that they can define what "fair" is. Therefore, they see no reason, whatsoever, to change their paradigm.
We had Al Jazeera reps tour our training area a couple of months ago. They were truly amazed at how much emphasis the US Army puts into training soldiers to fight ethically, and to educate units on when NOT to use "kinetic solutions" on the modern battlefield.
