Average 50k

I see they are running an ad for 2 for 1 hillside seats in an effort to average 50,000 in attendance. Has anyone heard what our average aggregate ticket revenue per home date is? We've put so much into filling the seats by discounting the prices and packaging them differently but I don't actually hear anything about whether we are making any more money.

I'm sure they are.... Or else why would they do it?? More people no matter the price will = more concessions then if no one showed up..

I tried in vain to argue this point here...that we were trying too hard to hype up the numbers and had no info into if it was actually translating into increased revenue but got a lot of resistance. I mean if the point is more concession sales why not do 3 for 1 tickets or better yet free with purchase of pizza or hot dog.

I tell you what. If we are selling this many tickets consistently and filling seats with a losing record....Imagine what that place would be like if were winning conistently. They would have to invest in more supports for the stadium. That place would be rockin.

Re: Average 50k

Making more money for our athletic program is great - but, to me, an alum from back in the day when you could walk from the Armory on a Saturday morning, walk to Jack Trice and buy a ticket sit 25 rows up and not have anyone in front of you.....i care about seeing the Jack full, its awesome, it provides the Athletic department other avenues to get money....Marketing, Suite sales, Club Seats, Merchandise - big time...theres a lot of ways to make more money not just at the gate.....

But, the big key for all of us Clone fans should be how this looks to potential recruits which will directly affect the types of teams we will have in the future....Wow - so proud, when you go into JTS and its full, the only time i saw that during my college days was Nebraska and Iowa...thats it.......

Be thankful for the experience.....

Discounting tickets, surely you jest. It cost us $90 to see the Iowa game, $100 more per season ticket this year over last and we sold a record number of season tickets. Have you been to a game? The crowds have been unbelievable, the smallest of the season had been Iowa with 49,000.

Re: Average 50k

Weren't hillside tickets being sold for $10 each the past couple of years at this point? I was surprised to see $35 for 2 games, as I thought that was high compared to previous years.

Re: Average 50k

It is obvious that this will make us money. Think about it. If more people show up at the games than would have if there wasn't a discount would we not be making more money than if those people didn't show up.

1,000 tickets sold @ $25 each = $25,000

0 tickets sold @ $25 each = $0

It's called opportunity cost.

I wish someone would tell the concessions people that we are getting 50K per game. Everything is gone by halftime.

What do Cyclone fans and Hawkeye fans have in common?
Neither one ever attended the University of Iowa.

Even if you thought we were losing money by doing this (which we certainly aren't), I look at it as an investment.

It's an investment in the fan base - putting a quality product on the field, and putting fans in the seats makes people want to come back, at a potentially higher price.

It's an investment in recruiting - recruits, both at the game, and watching from home are impressed by 50k people coming to watch a 1-8 team play football.

It's a marketing investment - Check out some of the lower tier BCS programs when they are on TV and check out their stands. Who wants to play in that atmosphere? Even TTech looked embarrassingly empty on TV last week. edit:(They played @ Missouri two weeks ago)

no, i think we are MAKING money doing it...I question the hype. Maybe something like "record crowds *" *=2:1 tickets. We would be all over Iowa if they were saying records crowds but were basically giving tickets away. Regardless, we need to do what we need to do to fill the stadium...it is good for recruiting, it is good for TV, it is good for atmosphere, it is good for the players, it is good for revenue, and it is good for getting new season ticket holders...hopefully the ultimate goal.

Re: Average 50k

The people who do not have tickets for the last 2 games are clearly not die hard fans. This is a means to get these people to buy a ticket and experience Jack Trice stadium.

If you sell 1,000 of these tickets and covert 10% of these tickets to full season tickets next year, you more than make up for the discount given.

As others have mentioned, you have concession sales but you also have merchandise sales whether purchased at the stadium or at Target, T Galaxy, etc.

That is awsome spin. Our attendance is so great, we eat and drink everything in the stadium!
