In finally watching the Chizik show last night...I saw the highlight of that completion to Catlett. When I heard it on the radio, I loved it. When I saw it, I loved it even more.
Roll out right...receivers flood right. Sneak a tight end out to the left...throw it to him.
Anytime I've seen this run, college or NFL, the backside receiver is always wide open. It's one of my favorite plays, especially if your offense does a lot of roll out flood passes, as ours does.
Hope to see more of it.
Especially in our system when about 95% of the time Meyer is looking 1 direction that is where he is throwing too.
KU scored a TD against us in '05 using that play that tied the score late in the game. I was there and it seemed like I was watching that play in slow motion and knowing I couldnt do a dang thing. :sad:

How can you scout it? The play looks identical to a roll out right flood pass right, we always run. The only difference is once in a while, sending a guy out to the left.
IMO, the play is not used nearly as often enough, especially against defenses that are aggressive. The more you run it, the less effective though.
But I wouldn't mind seeing it more often.
It's not a matter of scouting...it's whether or not you have disciplined players on the weak side who will stay home while everyone in the play is rolling away from him.
Or you throw it a little short, boom picked.
Even the most disciplined of players will flow to the football.
And, it depends on the type of coverage on who's responsibility that is in the secondary. Usually that tight end comes from the right side, picks through the linebackers and ends up on the left about 5-10 yards deep.
In man-to-man, most likely a safety or linebacker has him. In zone coverage, it could a linebacker or corner.
If you saw the reply, no one was even close to Catlett. Any other time I've seen it run, same thing.
I just want to know why we can't emulate what so many teams have done on us lately which is pick us apart with short passes and break some of them for nice gains. Maybe it's just our defense plays too far back off the line or something but Texas Tech makes a living off this strategy and with our depth at WR you'd think we could find some spots to pick on the defense with some quick hits or something.

this is KU's favorite play. It seems to work all the time. the other play that i love is the flee flicker but i don't know that our o line can fend people off for that long beings that it takes so long to develope
The point of the fleaflicker is getting the defense to bite on the run. If the defense sells out on the run, the O-line doesn't need to fend off people for all that long as a WR should be wide open downfield.Quote:

Just a good misdirection if anything...in order for it to work, you need to be effective with throwing the ball to the side you're moving to in previous plays.
In that game, we had done a decent job of that it seems.
Does Meyer always roll right? Can't remember a roll out to the left.
