As a whole, how does everybody think the coaching staff did in terms of game planning, play calling, adjustments, and game management???

I would give the Toledo coach an A also. Both coaches had a great first game. I am used to five fumbles and lots of motion penalities. The one whoops for McC was when we tried to sit on the ball early in fourth quarter.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

    C. could have been better ...... but i will take take the win any day and it was nice to see us be on the other side of the decision during a game in overtime. I think I would have lost it had we suffered another overtime dissapointment in a game we should have won.

If we all feel so incredibidly adament about the coaching and play calling... is there anything wrong with people sending coach an e-mail? Nothing idiotic and emotional, just something short and realistic like "Coach, myself and other fans would like to see more consideration put into really moving forward with our strong offense, specifically the passing game. We have many incredibly weapons between Blythe and the other recievers, and Meyer has proven himself as an excellent quarterback, so why not use those players to their full potential?"

And for those of you who feel you can put into words a reasonable way of asking Coach not to get too conservative with the play calling later in the game when we're up, go for it I guess...

In any case, would there be something wrong with that? Just thought I'd toss out the idea.

So I have to say that I gave him a B+, which I felt was low. Do you not realize that there is so much more to coaching than calling plays during the game?
How about the fact that we were only penalized 3 times for 18 yards. On the first week of the season most teams have around 8-10 penalties. Start looking through box scores and I'm sure there will only be a handfull of teams with 3 or less penalties.
I bring this up because a lack of penalties is a sign of a disciplined, well coached team.
Lets talk about the defense. Now I'm no college football coach, but I'm guessing that there is a pretty major adjustment involved in starting your first D-I college football game. I'll be the first to admit that our defense has a long ways to go, but we didn't get burned by deep plays on Thursday night, which I figured would happen rather often in the first few games.
I think Coach Mac has done a great job of getting this young defense ready to play in the Big XII, and all they need is some experience for themselves.
There was one maybe two play calls that are worth complaining over, both happening on the same drive. I would be suprised if Mac even made the calls on them.
Think of it this way, we could have Gary Pinkel as our coach.

I gave a B......I'm not sure how he could get less than that in a win over a quality opponent. It's really really easy to question the playcalling after the play! I've heard people screaming in the stands about EVERY play that didn't work. I feel like the play calling has been really conservative with the lead, which got them into some problems in the past. My favorite call of all time was the 4th and short tight end pass against Iowa a few years ago. But that won't always work either. Have to give credit to the other coach and players sometimes for making a good play not work, and realize that a good play might not work if the players don't execute. I would venture to guess that not many fans go back a break down the plays to see which are which.

If the coaching staff would consider changing their game plan because we e-mail them want them to - Then I would be concerned!
