He should not beat her like he would beat an animal or a child -- slapping them right and left.
Ah yes beating the kids nice and good is ok though. And I can't punch a dog in the face now, dang.

I saw a Kuwaiti man beat his wife. I'm talking blood spatter, here. To this day, every time I see an Arabic male, I think of that. And a couple things that aren't for polite company.

I understand, though that sometimes you have to "reach" in order to be an anti-Christian Bigot.

True, spousal abuse may have been more common 100 years ago, and kept hidden and maybe even more socially acceptable, but I do not ever remember hearing where it was anything actively promoted by the church. -

One of the many problems with Islam is the tribal nature of its adherants, and the confusion of "tradition" versus "religion".
But, still, the Islamic faith is much more friendly to spousal abuse, violence and war. The problem is going to be moving these guys out of the 11th Century before they obtain nuclear weapons.

Well, I have to take some issue here (and partly because I am a theologian by trade).
There is a big difference in the "oppression of women" in Christianity, even 400 years ago and Islam today. Beating has never been advocated in an widely accepted form (in other words it is not a part of mainstream Christianity - if you talk to someone like Fred Phelps, who knows). The type of oppression that most people speak of in Christianity is that of control or power in church, and somewhat in the home. While some may not like this, it is a far cry from "let 'er rip" on your wife.

I agree completely. The christian church may never have advocated the beating of women, but it did promote that wifes should be submissive to their husbands. Now, to me, it seems like that could be interpreted as allowing beatings, or just that women are "inferior" in stature to men. The mentality is similar, if not the same, and it's affects can be the same.
