I love to see it, too. Those kind of resources and mediocre teams. Ha. Gives the have-nots at least a little hope.

I loved it even more when we went to A&M and smoked them. Most impressive win of the McCarney era, in my opinion.

That's very true. You get some people with cash and an school administration that believes in a winning athletic program together, and you're going to get taj mahal facilities. Probably also going to get some graft and corruption, but that's another story...

I would love to see some math whiz on here put together a success/budget ratio and graph out the big 12 teams. I consider our athletic program as a whole decent for the money we have. But as JP as preached, we need to rake in the money to see more success.

Re: Sobering Facilities Comparison - A&M and ISU

I think one way to motivate donors is to send out videos showing what facilities our competition has, then show what we have. I think it would provide a better perspective to those who have never traveled to a game off campus.

The Baylor baseball team lounge is comparable to the Texas A&M football one... Aparantly it is all compliments of Kip Wells...

Re: Sobering Facilities Comparison - A&M and ISU

I'm a firm believer in the law of diminishing returns. I think we, as a program, need to have a basic set of facilities that meet the needs of our recruits. They should be nice, but not opulent.

We aren't selling houses here, we're selling a football program. I think we can be every bit as competitive as OK state, A&M, Nebraska, etc. without spending absurd amounts of money on facilities like they do. That isn't to say that the modest plan that JP has laid out for ISU is out of line, but championships aren't bought, they are earned.

Re: Sobering Facilities Comparison - A&M and ISU

Paraphrasing: When Gillespie (SP) was negotiating his original contract, he asked for certain facility improvements for the basketball program. That Weekend A&M met with architects and engineers to determine preliminary designs/costs after speaking with a few alumni members. They met with Gillespie on Monday and told him it was done. Gillespie asked what the time frame would be..2,3 or 4 years. To which A&M officials replied, no it's done. They raised 18 million in 3 freaking days.

Again... that is freak'n rediculous. I'm not as extreme as my friend in her disapproval of athletic spending vs academic spending... but I think this is one case where priorities are way out of whack... you don't see that happening when a professor needs a new lab or equipment for his class...
Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State,
and may her colors ever fly!!!
