And you thought rushing the field after K-State was bad...
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Naval Academy canceled classes Monday, giving the 4,400 midshipmen another day to celebrate the football team's first victory over Notre Dame in 44 tries.
Navy beat Notre Dame 46-44 in triple overtime Saturday when Reggie Campbell caught a 25-yard touchdown pass and a 2-point conversion throw from Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada. The Fighting Irish scored on their next drive after Travis Thomas ran five yards for a touchdown, but two Navy players tackled him on the 2-point conversion attempt.
"We are all proud of our Navy football team for beating Notre Dame in South Bend for the first time in 43 years!" Vice Admiral Jeffrey Fowler, the academy's superintendent, said in an e-mail to The (Annapolis) Capital. "We are all part of history because of this victory."
Fowler said Navy won because its practices are more intense than the games. The Midshipmen also overcame injured players and mistakes, he said.
The celebrations began in earnest late Saturday in Annapolis when the team bus pulled in. The academy gave plebes, or freshmen, free time Sunday from noon to 10 p.m., instead of a regular study period. Upperclassmen were given liberty until 4 p.m. Monday, allowing them to sleep in, study or just enjoy the victory. The city of Annapolis has tentatively scheduled a celebration rally Wednesday afternoon, city spokesman Ray Weaver said.
Notre Dame's winning streak over Navy began in 1964, the year after Roger Staubach helped the Mids defeat Notre Dame, 35-14, on Nov. 2, 1963. SI.com - NCAA Football - Navy cancels classes to celebrate win over ND - Monday November 5, 2007 1:48PM -

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -
Re: And you thought rushing the field after K-State was bad...
Maybe slightly pathetic, but here we are a team that thinks we need to rush the field after any win, so I guess I wouldn't throw too many stones. It's not like we hadn't beat K-State or Iowa in 44 years.

It doesn't so much matter that ND royally sucks, they should always beat Navy. Just look at the recruiting pitches both programs get to use:
Notre Dame: You can go to school free and play at the finest facilities for a storied program that is on national television every week.
Navy: You, uh, might get to go to Iraq when the season is over... yeah...

Re: And you thought rushing the field after K-State was bad...
I don't think it is that bad, and hey, I'm sure the students aren't complaining .
I also think it is a little different for a military school than for us.

They have pretty strict rules over there... I believe as a Pleb (freshman) you can't even leave campus except for authorized visits with a host family a few times a year...

Re: And you thought rushing the field after K-State was bad...
i dont think it's that bad, we have charged the field for less important victories than that. Everytime we beat Iowa which has been fairly often we charge the field. I mean most of the people on this forum weren't alive in 1964 and to not beat a team for that long and play them every single year and get beat every single year and finally beat this so called National Powerhouse, used to be, no longer. It's Notre Dame, any college football fan knows who Notre Dame is and what they have done. I know they suck royally this year and will pry finish worse than ourt team, but it meant a lot to them. It be like us playing Texas every single year from now until 2050 or so and never winning. Your not telling me ISU would go nuts if we beat them, we would right now if we beat them and we don't play every year.

Notre Dame stinks, its not that suprising the Navy won even though its been 44 years.

One team we could definitely storm the field for is OU. Looking at our all-time record vs. them makes me sick.
