Re: Seniors' "Remember When" Thread
You know what's kinda nice, we don't have a ton of stuff to list. Now that may sound kinda odd and should be more if we would've made some plays at key times (especially in '04 and '05)...but....
We only have 2 key contributers on offense graduating with Barkema and Moses being guys that contributed, but were not key guys.
On defense, again we graduated 2 what I consider very good players for us (Bowen and Rubin) and two players that has been good (Banks and Braaskma). Berg graduates yet has not done a lot this season for us and struggled last year.
On special teams, we lose both kickers and our deep snapper, none have been impressive.
That's really it.

OK this is last years seniors but how can we forget Ryan Kock's gazillion yds against Missouri last year converting from FB to TB.

Re: Seniors' "Remember When" Thread
I loved Rubin running down guys even though he's well over 3 bills.
I loved how Banks was a team guy, switched positions, and did a solid job at LB the last 1 1/2 years.
Just love how Moses fought through his disease to be a very solid contributor to a Big 12 football team. I have no idea how hard that was. Always have a ton of respect for the guy for that.
Blythe against A&M, unbelievable game.
Meyer, 9000+ passing yards. I've had some things to say about him but he is flat out one of the classiest guys who's ever donned the uniform and he'll be in the record books for a long time.
Bowen, I love the trash talking and intensity.

Re: Seniors' "Remember When" Thread
I know I'm not keeping with the "positive" theme some want but I can't help but to remember these seniors as an over-hyped and under-achieving group. They had so many opportunities to do some special things here but always blew them. There were some good individual moments in there but collectively I think they disappointed when you look at the big picture of what they could have accomplished. I don't care that Meyer and Blythe leave holding some individual ISU records, they don't have much to show for it as far as success as a team on the field.

Were they really hyped up, Blythe and Meyer yes, but besides them in the fall of 2004 I don't think any other individual players were expected to be among the best ever at ISU. There was a lot of team hype for the future. Also you can't put all the blame on the seniors for the missed oppertunities in 04 and 05 as they were just frosh and soph's. They didn't put it together as they got older though as many would have been thinking a couple summers ago.

This is true. Of the group graduating, Blythe and Meyer were really the only two with a ton of hype coming in. And even then, it wasn't huge until we had a surprising '04 and Blythe was a machine that season...keep in mind there wasn't much hype at all going into that season having finished 2-10 the prior year.
I understand what Trav is saying though, especially in respect to those two guys. So much hype on them and the last couple years - didn't do nearly what was expected. I really wish that wasn't the case. All these losses from '06 and '07 would have been at least a little easier to stomach if what many felt were our two best players - played like it all four years.

Re: Seniors' "Remember When" Thread
Meyer might have been hyped up because he was from Iowa but he most definitely wasn't hyped up nationally or even in the midwest. I think ISU was his only big offer.

What I meant was that coming in to Iowa State he wasn't highly touted or recruited. But he has been a good QB for us. The best in ISU history? I would say no even though his stats say yes. Sage was pretty dang good and he is still in the NFL after 7 years.

Please add as many as you can think of!!
Jon Banks had some great plays and games.
Barkema has had some big touchdown catches.
Milan Moses
Braaksma and Rubin
All of the seniors have been a big part of Cyclone History.
I don't want to remember the Toledo game of '06, that was horrible.
