Adam Carper

Is his career over? I know he had a devastating knee injury, but I thought at the beginning of the season that they were hoping he would be able to play football again. Is this still the case or did I miss the memo?

Re: Adam Carper

I would be surprised if we saw him again. He's been with the team still though, as far as I know.

Re: Adam Carper

I know he was out for this year. I was just looking for an update on his situation whether it be more surgery or a final determination as to his career. I had an ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair done in high school, and that was bad enough. I can't imagine the rehab process for an ACL, MCL, and meniscus. I hope everything works out for him.

My mother-in-law was Carper's 4-H leader back in Clarinda, and still talks to him from time to time. He's currently kind of an assistant linebackers coach this year. I believe to this point he's had 4 surgeries on his knee. He's still hopeful that he'll be able to play next year, but it is possible that he might be done.

I remember when the injury happened, he said he did a little research on similar injuries. For the most part the recovery time was around 18 months. So far its been about 13, so in the best case he may be ready to go by spring practices.

As other people have mentioned, it certainly isn't for lack of effort that he isn't ready to go yet.

Wow, what a huge, I mean absolutely huge boost that would be for our linebacker corps next year if he could play at even 80% of his former self.

I just hope, for Adam's sake, that these injuries won't cause him chronic pain his entire life. Maybe, with todays medical techniques, he will be able to recover fully to where he might not be able to play football, but he can at least be pain free.

Re: Adam Carper

The injury sucks, period. I'm quite jaded about knees today. Hopefully he's not and he can live a pain-free life. Playing football would be icing on the cake.

It would be great if he played next year, but there will be more important things in his life then 1 more year of college ball and I hope he makes the best decsion for him.

I've been fortunate to meet him a few times, and he's a quality guy, with some really good people around him. I'm confident he'll take all the factors into consideration before deciding whether or not to play again.
