I can't believe the NFLPA doesn't have a bereavement policy in their collective bargaining agreement. I have always had a bereavement policy that covers grandparents...

Bill Bellichek or the new Vikings coach would have said they should have paid to move the funeral to a different day and maybe different town.

If the player's union agreement doesn't cover this situation, I would guess there is a general bereavement policy for the Vikings organization that would be in effect. If it is not followed, the organization opens themselves up to issues when other employees need bereavement leave.
It seems cold, but if you are in management, you know what happens when policies get followed for some employees, but not for others...

"We sat down and talked on it before he left. ... He had to do what he had to do. Everybody handles that differently. [Williamson] had to do what his family situation called for." "Everybody handles that differently"? WTF!?!? It's his grandmother for crying out loud!!! I think the Vikings are trying to give the NCAA some competition for d**kheads of the year!

The Vikings are drawing a hard line about missing games. It's cold, but it sends a clear message to the rest of the players.

Not to sound cruel, but Williamson brought most of this on himself. The Vikings, like most employers, have accomodated many players dealing with family issues in the past. There was no problem with attending the funeral. The Vikings expected Williamson to also show a commitment to his team and make an effort to return as soon as practicable. He basically told the team to pound sand and is acting out some behavior issues that have landed him in the doghouse for the past 2-3 years. His days with the Vikings are numbered and it will not be because of his choosing.

Well, this is the same organization that decided that Tavaris Jackson & Brooks Bollinger were a good solution at QB and that Adrian Peterson really doesn't need to be their starting RB. | | |

Actually it was because he stayed longer than the amount of time he was given by the vikes. None the less, still cold.

So now who is Tavaris going to thow to? Looks like the opponents will key on AP. If they lose, it is Troy's fault. it will snowball and get the coach fired in the end.
Point is the Show Must Go On....terrible for family, but he is in a big business that works Sundays.
