Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
The defense is way ahead of the offense, and the interior defense is way ahead of the perimeter defense. We gave up way too many uncontested 3's-they scored 30 of their 44 points from 3.
Brackins and Garrett had impressive debuts-we need Garrett to come around because Peterson is merely a distributer, not a scorer. We missed Wes big time tonight-Haluska couldn't throw it in the ocean and Boozer did not impress. I think we are better shooters than we demonstrated tonight.
Cory did some blue collar work off the bench and made some big time baskets when we needed them. We need him off the bench to spell Jiri and Brackins.
The future looks bright-the present may be a little up and down
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
We obviously need WJ to get healthy in a hurry.
Petersen - looks like a high school kid out there. He won't be the starter for long. He does like to push off with his left arm. Made FTs down the stretch.
Boozer - tried too hard to score in his limited minutes.
CJ - Great game - nice moves around the basketball.
Brackins - Stud.
Sean - wow, I expected more from him.
Thompson - if he has a schollie...wasted. He looks lost.
Jiri - solid performance.
Clark - a little off with passes, several blocks and dunks.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
i would be willing to bet, we dont have another non conference game this year where we fail to make a 3... to many threats out there, just weren't on tonight...
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
I'm not sure I've watched us telegraph more passes in one evening than I did tonight.
But, we won. And - a couple guys stepped up nicely.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
I'm more comfortable with our guards this year relative to last year. Maybe we didn't score any threes, but they weren't ball hogs and worked to get it to our inside guys.
Speaking of inside guys, the additional weight these guys have put on is going to help down the stretch.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
C. Johnson really stood out to me tonight. Brackins looked really good, but, the rest of the new guys were trying way too hard. Even Rahshon looked like he was thinking too much when he shot the ball. Corey was hustling and working hard and just playing basketball. Everyone else really seemed to be pressing too much.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
I watched the game on TV and there was some outstanding camera work late in the game. It was the best "shot" of the night.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
Coach said in the post-game that losing Wes and Lucca is really hurting the team right now. It sure seems clear that Lucca would have been a big part of this year's team.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
Nice to see we can win a game when the three's aren't falling. Would've liked to see more out of Jiri, but it's hard to pass the ball to him when so many of those passes are batted or picked off.
Cory Johnson's performance was surprisingly great. I hope to see him improve the rest of the year. I was impressed with him early on last year, and then seemed to kind of fade out after he peaked vs. Oden at OSU. Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen this year.
Overall, day one of Cyclone sports weekend was a blast! Looking forward to losing my voice at the football and men's b-ball game tomorrow.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
What exactly happened to Wes? I saw him in street close and wearing the boot at the game.
Also, I was disappointed when I saw he wasn't dressed because I bet on him making the first trey of the season.. looks like I could still be in the running for that one
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
Something to do with a sprained ankle, I think. Nothing too major, he should be back in a few games.
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
I agree with your succint analysis.
Peterson and Thompson are not D-1 talent. Both will get eatin alive in the Big 12.
Does each of them have a schlorship? If so, I'm somewhat concerned that GMAC would waste it on them. They should be a walkon. Garrett will be very good. Brackins is big time. Boozer-I'll reserve judgment and will wait and see. Haluska? I felt the urge to boo! Jiri-Very good! Clark-works his ***** off and has plenty of talent. Glad he's on our team. I've seen Lucca play. He's a stud! I predict he will not play this year. We're going up against the NCAA. GMAC- Very good coach. If we can go 9-9 in the conference, I'll be happy.

Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
Worst passing I have seen in a long time... telegraphed and weak! The only two good passes I saw all night were from Jeri and Adam. Jeri's no look under the hoop, and Adam had a good strong bounce pass through two defenders to brakins for the lay in.
I was really impressed with our D. Adam once again was great on the D side of the ball. He had a few open looks from 3point land, just wasn't on. He hits a few of those and this game slowly becomes a blow out.
I want to know where the Alex Thompson that i heard so much about ran off too. The guy I've seen so far this season is slow, apathetic, lazy, and just plain bad.
WJ is sorely missed. Not having him in really exposed our weak spots, a few more boards and a few threes and it's a different game.
And finally... FREE LUCCA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh, and Brakins in crazy ridiculous. I'm anxious to see how this kid develops throughout the season...
Re: Post game analysis-Winston Salem St
eh, the first game jitters are over. im just pumped for bball season.

We have Sean Haluska...the one who doesn't fall down after every shot.
