It could have gotten ugly after the game..
I posted my agreement with the thread on class shown by CU after the game, but apparently there is more to the story. Sounds like it could have gotten ugly had not some of the CU players restrained others. Hats off to those with common sense, but no question it was a powder keg waiting to blow.
Buffs left kicking themselves : Top Stories : Boulder Daily Camera
Several CU players were so angry they had to be restrained by teammates as Iowa State fans stormed the field, just like CU fans did a year earlier when the Buffs beat the Cyclones in Folsom Field.
Re: It could have gotten ugly after the game..
Yeah it was a dangerous situation out there, that is the first thing I thought, was those students are taking their lives in their own hands.
Re: It could have gotten ugly after the game..
So, someone explain something to me. The rule of stopping the clock and giving a 5 yard penalty for snapping the ball early seems to benefit the penalized team. If CO doesn't do that, then they don't even have a chance to kick the second kick. Shouldn't there be a mandatory time run-off? This seems like a loop hole rule that can be used when out of time outs. This should be fixed.

It is definitely a loophole. The NFL runs 10 seconds off of the clock in those situations. If Colorado had really known what they were doing their center would have just run up and snapped the ball with 5 seconds left.

I agree, it is very confusing.

You don't think every long snapper in the country is going to look at that and know that if the game comes down, that is all they need to go, just go up snap it take the 5 yards get set and kick. That rule will be changed this year I bet.

I don't think anyone else is going to see it. Despite the crazy finish, I have not seen a single highlight from the game on TV.
Re: It could have gotten ugly after the game..
They just got to keep in mind that they only have that amount of time to snap it on the next play. The clock doesn't start on the snap, it starts when the ball is set!

I'm surprised there wasn't an actual fight and that no one got hurt - it looked kinda ugly for a bit there.

Do we know that for sure? Boulder paper says rule states clock starts on snap. No matter, the W is ours.
Re: It could have gotten ugly after the game..
I'm not an expert, so no I dont know for sure. But the way it was explained on the radio, and think about other calls within games, it seems to make sense.

Clock starts when the ball is placed and the official has time to step out of the way. If you watch the one offical told the holder what was going on, and then stepped away. CU just blew it.

Couldn't help but laugh at that!:biglaugh:
Re: It could have gotten ugly after the game..
The players afterwards reminded me of UNLV players. They were slamming their helmets to the ground, etc. Can you be angry - yes. Should you act like crazy people that have to be "restrained" - no.
