Who says points allowed is anywhere near the most important stat. You see waynes teams averaged several more possesions per game due to the higher pace of the game. This allowed the other team more possessions as well. More possessions=more shots, the more shots the more points (unless you are AI). You can look at points allowed, but it is only part of the equation.
[/b][/quote]
You're right. The most important stat when it comes to that is Defensive Efficiency, which is points per 100 possessions. This is the best way to compare the two teams. ISU allowed 102 points per 100 possessions. UNI allowed 93.4 points per 100 possessions. UNI only scored 1.9 points less than ISU per 100 possessions. That is difference is almost 9 points per 100 possessions, and that difference is massive.
So basically, since UNI ran a much slower pace last year, they didn't give up as many points. But they didn't give up near as many also because they didn't allow their opponents to score at a much higher pace like the Cyclones did.
IMO, much of this is the result of not having a Homan-esque player on the back line. But Morgan had two years to recruit that kind of player and didn't. For a guy who's strength is recruiting, this is a bad sign to me.

Is this really how we want this site to continue?? When this started it was fantastic. Full of cyclone news, Big XII news and updates relating to our beloved cyclones. Since then it has become a complete b*tch fest. "My opinion is better than yours therefore you are a complete moron." I have to tell you I am not interested in reading back and forth dialogue between people trying to flex their muscles over the internet. Grow up! If someone doesn't care for another's opinion step back take a deep breathe, call that person an idiot in your mind; but for god's sake don't make each post worthless banter just so you can feel superior over another via the internet.
Can I make a suggestion? That we get back to posting cyclone related information about our new recruits, conference changes, facility upgrades, athletic schedules and/or our competitors news. Let's bring it back to the top quality site it was intended for instead of a myspace-esque garbage board.
Just my two cents. ;)

Outstanding suggestion!!! I strongly share your sentiments. I was drawn to this site initially because there was so much insightful information posted. It has subsequently digressed significantly. To the handful of you who feel the need to attack each other, please take your iimmature bickering to a chatroom somewhere and leave the rest of us out of it!

No. Actually it was supposed to be about why Baylor was chosen from the Big 12 for the NIT. Then discombobulated decided to turn it into another Cyclone-hating thread.

Re: Preseason NIT
The reason last year why ISU gave up so many points is because we always pressed with three out front and did not follow/foul very well defensively with our four bigs. The reason we scored so much was we picked the pockets of their sloppy guards so much with our Little Three that we became good at making layups. The reason we lost games was because we could not hit the perimeter shot- worse than Bean(o Cook)s. The games we lost at Hilton we looked like a demoralized team on the way to the buthcer. We actually looked more organized on the road in our away uniforms. And the turning point of the season was the loss to Ohio State. And the second turning point was the mismanaged loss at Oklahoma. We expect McD to coach the last minute of the games better than last year. That will be worth some wins right there. Right, gang?

A grind it out style will pack in the fans? Like Orr's grind it out style? How does grinding it out get the crowd on its feet? When I watch Iowa games with thier grind it out style it sure doesn't fire up the crowd, so I wonder why you think it will work here. I appreciate your concern about what I assume is my posts, however I believe I will keep saying whatever I want. If you could tell me why you are so excited about next years teams, I may actually respect your position. My "negative" posts are not so much negatove, as they are founded in realizim. I state my points for why we won't be good next year
basketball: only two big men, all three guards new, loss of almost all scoring and assists. improving conference around us.
Football: tougher schedule, loss of key players, and lack of depth at key positions.

Well UNI...scored within 1 point of ISU last year in points per game. That grind it style of Wayne Morgan was really boring

No one here blindly believes he's the best thing ever. Stop exaggerating in order to prove your point. Actually, what is your point? That it's logical to categorically blast a new coach who's never played a game here, inherited a team in turmoil, and already made great strides in filling the gaps for next year?
Disagreeing with a hire is one thing. Swinging for the fence at every opportunity to voice that disagreement is quite another. I think you might be a cynic.

uh compairisons to coach K, and roy williams? is that a post claiming he is better than average? What turmoil was there in the team? the bs d1 thing... which btw have you heard anything about since doyel got rid of the man he hates. It was on no other network, no other site, but yes we were in turmoil. This is exactly the same as when morgan took over. The gaps for next year were left in part by him. I can remember people like you on here a few shorts weeks ago claiming that casey jacobsen with mcd's coaching would be a great b[ig 12 player. Yeah we may almost sneak one out against ndst with him seeing any real minutes. He is a walkon and has a role, to get the scolorship players ready/ If he is real good he does just that, and sits the rest of the time.

No turmoil on team? Now you have proved that you don't know squat about Cyclone athletics. There was vast turmoil in the lockeroom, on the practice court and it spilled over into games....but then you never have let the facts get in the way of your rants...
