My parents and his live about a mile apart, I worked for his Dad for a summer. They're good regular people.

Btw if this is true how great is their character. They aren't being forced out of scholly and told to leave the team, they were probably just simply asked they said yea. That is like a 15,000 dollar decision. Division 1 sports need more people like this.

Actually that is the way they were recruited. Hey if you walk on this year we will give you a one year schollarship to play. Next year we can't though because we have other recruits comming in.

As it currently stands, they will already be giving up their scholarships for 2008, according to the guys we have signed.

Re: Quick update on MBB recruiting
As we have seen however... everything can easily change with regard to how many scholarships we have to give.
have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.
So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough? -

Re: Quick update on MBB recruiting
If we have student athletes that are transferring on their own accord or for academic reasons, I have no problem with that. I get uncomfortable though if an athlete is "encouraged" to transfer in order to free up another scholarship. I know there's a fine line there, but I hope McDermott isn't crossing it.

- He hasn't played real basketball for about a year and a half.
- He's learning a completely new, complex system
- G-Mac is a great big-man coach (See Jiri 2006/2007)

Re: Quick update on MBB recruiting
I agree CloneFan65, but I really don't have a problem with a coach being honest with a player and telling him that they are unlikely to see a lot of playing time in the future. Most players would probably want to go somewhere where they can compete for playing time. Frankly I hope this program gets to the point where we lose a guy or two every year because they've been recruited over. You need role players, but you need guys that are going to contribute as well.

He was a redshirt last year, so he's been in the system for over a year and he's been getting coached by McD for a year as well. Honestly if Pomlee wants to come in, I'd say give him Thompson's scholarship because Thompson was made aware of that possibility when he came on in the first place.

My parents and his live about a mile apart, I worked for his Dad for a summer. They're good regular people. I agree, some people think its a size of town deal. I'm sure its not, my friend in college (from chicago) was really tight with his family and really missed them. It took him a while and adjust to his new friends and comforts. For him his best friend was/is his father and it was the first time he couldnt see him everyday. It would be tough, I guess.

I agree with your points about giving a scholarship to someone else if possible.
Yet, as we saw with most of the guys last season, practicing in G-Mac's system and taking that to the court in live action are two different things. In the first half of last season, Jiri had to sit 6 game and when he did play...ISU fans were ready to lynch him.
Then, against NDSU, he came alive and had his first double-double of the season. From then on out, he was a different player - leading us to some wins. I think a person must play in G-Mac's system and fail before he truly sees the light. It's a tough system and certainly isn't the most flashy/fun. But when executed correctly, it's effective and it wins. In the end, wins are the most enjoyable part of the game...guys finally begin to see that forsaking their own agendas for Ws is better.
I don't think AT will ever be a Jiri caliber player, but I do expect him to improve as he shakes the rust off. I hope it happens and soon - because I won't dispute the fact that he looks lost and over-matched out there right now.

Re: Quick update on MBB recruiting
Okay here's what i gather...and this is recent as in my source is close with Vette's parents and other uppers of the MBB program.....and he had discussions with both at the Centenary game....
Vette was extremely homesick and the transition has been tough.....
But, things have improved greatly over the past couple of weeks and the adjustment is taking its time, but, its improving. So, my source indicated if it were Vette he would be completely shocked!!!
So, if its not Vette what other freshman could it be.....how bout Brister, what if that's the reasoning behind his being late to meetings, practices and classes....maybe his mind is somewhere else......I was told that they doubt its Brackins because he's been traveling on a AAU team since he was like 12, so, being away isnt a new thing for him....

I think the rumor about a freshman not being with the team after this year is a completely different rumor/issue.

Re: Quick update on MBB recruiting
Brackins grew up in California, went to school in Chicago two years ago, went to school in New Hampshire last year, and now is at college in Iowa. I'm pretty sure Brackins is one of those comfy wherever guys.
