Chizik "gets it" on an impressive level.
I was a band member in the 50's, and we made the Lawrence trip a time or two. Loaded up around 5 and made a rest stop next to a cornfield at about 10. Arrived at Lawrence about an hour before game time. I think we had box lunches. Came back the same day. Makes a long day, but band members are tough!
That is really, really cool. I wonder if there are still some people who doubt we made the right decision in hiring him?
Does this mean I'm not going to have to cover for the lack of a band by doing "First Down" via yelling?
Good. More energy for cheering.
To buy tickets for the game through ISU do you just have to go to the ticket office? Anyone know when the latest you can get them that way is and/or if there are still a decent number left?
I called the ticket office before I went to check if they had any before I went and bought them there. This was a month ago though, so i would suggest calling ahead.
Not to try and detract from people's worship of Chizik but... I live with a band member and he has never heard anything about Chizik paying. I dunno how long band has known they were going to Kansas, but it's essentially been all semester.
As for buying tickets to the game you can/could get them at the ticket office if you're an NCC member or season ticket holder. However they may have already sold them back to Kansas, so either buy them from a scalper or call down there
Sorry to burst the bubble but Chizik is not paying for the band to travel to Kansas. ISU and KU bands and athletic departments made an agreement last year to let KU come here and not have to pay for their seats if we could go there the following year. Then all the bands would have to pay for is the travel expenses. We have known since last year that we were going to KU this year.
Yes the Big XII did pass a rule saying that for a band to travel they have to pay for the seats that they take up that is why ISU and KU made this agreement.
It has been a LONG time since the full band has traveled with the team. Maybe Oklahoma State in '98? Anybody know? We sent a pep band to nebraska in '03 I know.
I was always jealous we didn't get to travel as much as some other bands do. But thats the way it goes when taking a band costs a boat load of money I guess.
They had some band members at NU this year too
At Nebraska weren't there like 80 or so band members? I think thats what my sousaphone friend said. They were fun to listen to in the first half...lol.
Chizik is an amazing coach.
