Yes the Big XII did pass a rule saying that for a band to travel they have to pay for the seats that they take up that is why ISU and KU made this agreement. Who pays for band travel?

Re: Chizik paying Band's trip to Kansas
Usually, it's the Athletic Department...unless it's being run by Bruce VDV. Green hills for thy throne, and for crown a golden melody/Ringing in the hearts of all who bring thee love and loyalty/Dear Alma Mater, make our spirits great True and valiant like the bells of I-O-WA STATE!

Come on - let us have this one. Don't take the illusion away! We desperately want to believe Chizik is the coolest coach in college football, and this reinforces that. So, just go away with your..... truth. -
Re: Chizik paying Band's trip to Kansas
I can't believe the band does not regularly make the away conference games! Well, whoever is paying for the trip it will be nice to have the band their blasting the ISU Fight Song as we throw the monkey wrench into KU's BCS hopes and shock the nation!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

I'm not in the band but I can tell you lack of money would be one reason... as someone else noted band has to pay for each seat they take up (that gets expensive after a while) not to mention the cost of transportation and lodging

I was always jealous we didn't get to travel as much as some other bands do. But thats the way it goes when taking a band costs a boat load of money I guess. From 85-88 we traveled to one Big 8 road game, plus the Iowa away game every other year. Full band. 85 to Norman, 86 Boulder, 87 Lawrence, 88 Boulder again. Pretty cool considering we never had a realistic shot at a bowl game. Left at around midnight all liquored up, drank some more on the bus (yes on the bus back then), tried to sober up during the day and then arrived at a local high school Friday night. Stayed with local band parents that night, then headed off for the game. Drank more Saturday night in the hotel. My 40 year old body couldn't do that anymore.
I must say the OU trip was probably the best reception wise. A great ovation. Even better than many home games. Of course that was before we went overtime and made their band cut their show short. -
Re: Chizik paying Band's trip to Kansas
I have been to most of the Big 12 venues and the only band that comes close to ours is Texas A&M, and that is based more the precision drill work than the quality of the sound and the music. We may struggle on the field, but in the band department we are pretty impressive.
For all the work they do, they should get to go to at least one away game a year.

Other than trips east on I-80 (and bowl games), I'm thinking Oklahoma 1998 (Halloween).
1996 - none
1997 - full band to Minneapolis; full band to Columbia.
1998 - full band to Norman.
1999 - two buses to Lincoln.
2000 - 20 people to Waco (out of the pocket of Steve Bergstrom); one or two buses to Stillwater.
2001 - two buses to Lincoln.
2002 - none
2003 - pep band to Lincoln. (?)
2004 - none
2005 - none (with road games in Lincoln, Columbia and Lawrence!!!)
2006 - none
2007 - pep band to Lincoln; full band to Lawrence.

There's a picture floating around somewhere that appears to include: a grotesque hotel hot tub (after a game of 69 [people] in a tub), Cichy next to or being thrown into a hotel pool, and multiple cases of RWB stacked on the pool deck covered by a towel. I wish I could find it.
Between all of that, and having to walk on bus seats because the aisles were literally full of coolers...
Glory days.

Re: Chizik paying Band's trip to Kansas
Kinda of off topic, very similiar situation
Mark Turgeon, Texas A&M's Head Basketball Coach, bought the whole student section tickest to both Preseason NIT games at Reed, Texas A&M's Arena
If Turgeon didn't buy the tickets at $20 a pop, students would have had to pay for each game
Chizik and Turgeon -

1995 - Full Band BACK to Lawrence
1996 - Iowa City...maybe that was it....
