Do you want grass or do you want fieldturf for the Jack next year? I would like the fieldturf in the stadium so we can practice on it and that would a real home field advantadge!!!!! | | |

I've always thought football should be played on real grass. I hated astroturf. I like the way the new field turf looks looks, but in the end, there is something about a football uniform not getting dirty that really bothers me. Not to mention, weren't we always considered to have one of the better fields in the country?

It would be kind of odd for an Ag/Horticulture school to go from grass to artificial grass.
I did see our field getting tore up at times this year, probably because late august and early october were so wet. Although, I was very impressed with its conditions on Saturday. After the K-State game, the field looked rather rough.
Against CU, it almost looked brand new.

Anyways, I like natual grass, IMO it how the game was meant to be played, not that what I think really means much
Plus, with a good hort school on campus, we always seem to have a nice looking field.

Against CU, it almost looked brand new. I've always said though, that tore up look after a game could be what saved a kid from getting a serious injury. There is a fine line between mushy and just giving enough, but, it's hard for me to believe that even the new turf would be as forgiving as a well kept natural field. In a way also though, isn't that how football should be played, in the mud and the rain? I think back to some of the old pro games that became mudbowls compared to the quality of turf guys today, it seems, without a major monsoon, you just don't see mudfests anymore, even on natural fields. I'm sure it costs a pretty penny to keep it that nice, but, it would be a shame to see our natural field go away with all of the other improvements we're getting.

I am aware of what we had back then and found it odd at that time as well.
I'm not opposed to the newer artificial grass fields...they're pretty nice. Yet I think the real thing is better.

Grass all the way. Football is meant to be played on it. We have one of the finest agriculture programs in the nation. There's no reason for us not to have the best grass field in the nation to go with it.

I'm a big fan of grass over turf. However, we need to re-sod or re-seed. The field came up in huge chunks this year. It looked like crap on TV. Not to mention the numerous times there were player from both teams trying to get chunks put back inplace. It is almost like the roots did not get deep enough. We are have an Ag College full of Agronomists!! Our grass should be onustanding!!

how about that nearly concrete green surface they had in the UNI-dome in the 80s. just kidding....
I agree, I like grass, and an institution such as ISU with the Ag/Hort schools should have a kick @$$ patch of green to play on, throughout the season. HOWEVER, I will say, I walked on Wisconsin's Camp Randall Field Turf back in October, and wow, that stuff was sweet. Does it come down to a money issue? has Pollard addressed it?

No that is the original sod that was put down twelve years ago. The word is that life of field turf sod is 10 years and Mike Andresen (Head of Grounds) has been able to make our last 12 years but has asked to have it resodded but it is very expensive. We need to keep grass considering that it is a AG school and we have one of the best turf and grounds guys in the country.

Haven't watched a game this season on TV, so I can't say what the field looked like.
But from the stands, I think it looks pretty d@mn sweet. I saw a number of chunks flying last week as well, but nothing you don't see elsewhere.
For me, grass is the only way to go. But I thought JP made a statement earlier in the year and it sounded like the upkeep was too much over time - got the idea that the new turf is on the way.
