Cubs make another move Monroe to Twins

The Official Site of Chicago Cubs: News: Chicago Cubs News

Looks like they are getting rid of some of their older players in the outfield that were set to be overpriced..This should open up room for them to make a move for carl crawford or Fukudome.

It'll be interesting to see who they get, or how the AAA team will come together in general.

They pretty much cleaned house down here last July, dealing away Coates, Moore, Rapada. Can't think of the others. Take into consideration that Pie and Soto most likely won't be back down. Not sure about Patterson or Cedeno either.

By the end of the season - couldn't name anybody out there.

From the Twins angle I hope this will sway Hunter to stay given he is good friends with Monroe. Course they have to offer him a decent contract first.

I hope you are right...Unfortunately I'm thinking this is the Twins back up plan if/when Hunter leaves....I hate to admit it but this is the "typical" Twins move. You lose a star and get a guy on the down side of his career...Hopefully Monroe can break out of last years slump and play some good ball.

Age 30 usually is considered around the peak(28-30) so I don't view this as a bad deal. He had one bad year and the previous ones were okay. The Twins are giving up a ptbnl so I doubt its a big prospect and thus I'm willing to give this a chance. As far as Torii(and Silva for that matter) I'm willing to bet they are gone. With Santana, Morneau, and Cuddyer all due sizable raises coming up it doesn't bother me. The 3 I just mentioned are all below 30 and are the future of the Twins. Hunter is 32 and while it would be nice to keep him the combination of his probable huge long contract and declining skill set as he ages makes it fiscally irresponsible.

I agree with you about Hunter. He wants 5 years and given his fearless style (one of the reasons everyone loves him), his body won't hold out for 3. If they could talk him into the 3year/45mil contract he turned down, I say beautiful. I think Monroe is a decent risk.....much better than RonDL, Batista, Ponson, etc.

Now we just have to pray they take a serious run at Santana. If they aren't ready to spend with the big boys for him, they need to trade him to a contender for the farm. I hope they don't just let his contract run out and end up with nothing to show for the best pitcher in the game.
