I never could understand why they couldnt before. It doesnt bother me any as long as they are still trained the same. Anymore you never know who might bring a gun to class or on campus and start firing.
Finally! This was a big issue when I was a freshman back in 96. Some people tried to turn it into a racial thing... I am glad that didn't happen this time.
Now lets just hope they never HAVE to use their weapons.
CyBookie event: Over/Under on the number of days before an ISU cop shoots someone.
You better set it pretty high... when was the last time Ames PD shot somebody?
DPS has been itchin to pack for years. I wouldn't worry about guns, I'd be worried if they could tase you bro'!
I was gonna say... that didn't take long but I guess we already had the weapons. I understand that the ISU PD train regularly with them as well... just couldn't carry them before
Now that we have the ISU Police armed, could we find some spare arms for #26 SmithJones of the football team? :twitcy:

Yeah, I don't get why this was such a big deal. ISUPD are fully trained cops. Cops should carry guns.
It was a joke that they couldn't carry before. They were all trained to carry while at the academy. This really is a step in the right direction.
As long as they are fully trained (which the have been) than yes they should be able to carry guns. I think they should have tasers as well if they don't already. Bcuz different situations call for different weapons. And that's the type of training that will stop an unwanted shooting by a police officer on someone.
it was weird to see them on their bikes in the tailgate lots with guns on their hips already
