Re: Arnaud, Meyer, Bates
Arnaud needs to work on some of his throws, but the talent is there... he underthrew Hamilton this week in what should have been a TD and again in what was an INT.. I think they will get that buttoned up, but in the mean time Bates has a big arm and i think he will see some looks early in the season as well. Arnaud does need to get bulked up some. thats one thing about Meyer, he was built well and it really helped with all of the hits he took. Deep down we are really going to miss Meyer, he gave us all hope. he just never really got any better. Speaking personally of him, he was a leader of the game, he keeps everyones head up. He was very good in the huddle making everyone feel good. I think he was invaluable to the ISU program in many ways un-known to the fans. He wanted to win, he did his very best for us, and we could not ask for more.

Saving Bret for the pro tryout camps. Thx, Gene. We understand now.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Thanks for all your great service, Bret. You have taken a beating over the years, and this game is out of hand, so... sit back, relax, soak in your last game, and leave your college football career healthy. That is an interesting perspective I hadn't considered much. Certainly a nicer thought pattern... (I haven't always cared for his performance on the field, and don't know much about him but in my 2 very brief encounters with him he seems like a very nice and classy guy, so I would prefer to think that is the terms on which he went out)

As a QB, if you're making a good pass and the guy is open, you're doing your job. You have to trust that he's going to do his and catch the ball.

Re: Arnaud, Meyer, Bates
I didn't say it's a reason not to throw to him, but that's how I will remember Jon Davis: running wide open in Shreveport, only to have the ball bounce off his hands.

That was just something that came to my mind last night while watching the last few minutes of the game and thought this would be a good place to discuss it.
If I wanted to slam the coach there is probally something better to slam him for other than his choice of QB in the last drive of the game

It is easy for all of us arm chair quarterbacks to rag on Meyer but as you say he poured his heart into the game. I tell my kids all the time that all I expect is their very best. If they do that I will never fault them and perhaps we all owe that to Bret?

Re: Arnaud, Meyer, Bates
I'm projecting ahead to next season already. There is no doubt in my mind I want next years backup qb (who ever it is) to be the starter

He couldn't have thrown that ball much better.

The reality and sad part of his underthrow to Hamilton is that if it had been on the money it would have been a td and the interception would not have taken place. That said, I'm not to down about it, since I expect these throws to be on time next year with an offseason's worth of practice. Its good to see Austin demonstrates a growing knowledge of reading the defense properly. If someone beats him out next year, my expectations would be throught the roof for that guy, cause I think AA has a bright future himself.

Re: Arnaud, Meyer, Bates
Id have to see the replay again snow craig, but if i recall, i think Hamilton had to cut inside to make the catch rather than keeping stride towards the goal line. none the less a good play

Re: Arnaud, Meyer, Bates
Watched it a few times...Hamilton had at least 3-4 steps on the defender. The ball was underthrown. If thrown on target - touchdown.
But, it wasn't going to have an impact on the outcome.
I can definitely see that's something Arnaud needs to improve on.

Where did you watch it? Any internet highlights anywhere?

Re: Arnaud, Meyer, Bates
I recorded the game as I watched it. They replayed that play and I rewound it to watch it again, because I'm a glutton for punishment.
And if I knew how to get this video from my DVR, I could post it. But, even then, it's not worth it for this one play.
