Re: Which coach will find success 1st...GMac or Chiz?
People are of the opinion that Staiger is a game changer. We haven't even seen him play in a real game. Cap City league doesn't count...remember Haluska lit up the Cap City league and needless to say he hasn't done that when it counts unfortunately.

I think each team will meet the success criteria in year 3 of each regime. That means MBB next year, and FB the year after. The groundwork being laid out now should begin to show some fruit at that point.

Re: Which coach will find success 1st...GMac or Chiz?
Coming into this season, I had been very excited about basketball and football. The first two losses of football season brought me back to reality where that sport is concerned, and the whole Lucca situation took away the excitement I had for basketball season. I hated losing to Bradley, and then losing to Minnesota got me really depressed.(if it was on the road, not so much. But it was at home) But then I keep thinking of the good recrutits that GMac is supposed to have for the future, and I like the way things look in the long term. But, in the short term, I'm not at all pleased with where the basketball program is(once Wes is back, I may change my mind). I'm still not sure about year three of Mac....my early thoughts are NIT at best, but we'll see. With football, I think we have a good shot at a bowl with our schedule next season, and a better record and better bowl in year three.
So, to answer the original question, I say Chizik will have 'success' before McDermott.

Regardless, I will bet you he's better than any of the guards we have other than WJ and this is confidently saying this without him stepping on the floor to play a single minute. Game changer is yet to be seen but he's a big kid who can shoot and pass which is more than I can say about any of our other guards right now.
Let's put it this way, after watching the Cap City league I was more concerned about Brackins being able to hold his own in the Big 12 than Staiger's capabilities and I've been plesantly surprised with how quickly Brackins has contributed and esepecially him being our biggest threat on offense right now. He looked REALLY raw this summer I thought.

Gmac had him as the starter before everything went to the NCAA funhouse. That to me indicates that the guy can play. Maybe he will be a bust, but as a fan, I have to hope the coaching staff knows more about what it take to play D-1 BB than I do.

Re: Which coach will find success 1st...GMac or Chiz?
Assuming that success is a bowl in football and an NCAA bid in basketball, I would say it'll be close, but 6 wins in football is easier than 20 or more in basketball. -
Re: Which coach will find success 1st...GMac or Chiz?
I'm hoping they both do it at the same time! Chizik can potentially do it next year with quite a few starters. At the beginning of the year there were a lot of good quotes from the Colorado players who said when they had a new coach last year they were always thinking instead of playing and reacting. I think we saw more of that at the end of the season.
And for BB, Brackins, Wesley, and importantly (imo) Garrett (and all the rest of the younger guys) will have more experience so hopefully the BB team
will be able to get 20. Hopefully a guy like Buckley can come in and be a nice player as a freshman.

as of right now.. i think it will be about even.. it think bball will struggle some this year... and next year have more gel time and confidence and football next year i think will be better than this year due to time in the system and most of the o line coming back who played pretty well this year
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative. ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other." -

I never heard this. So if Lucca was a penciled in starter what was the lineup going to be? Peterson, Wes, Rashon, Lucca, and Jiri? Was Brackins coming off the bench?? There is no way Lucca and Wes were our 2 guards. Neither can handle PG duties. I personally think Lucca was 1st off the bench to spell SG or SF position and not a starter, but I could be wrong. I just don't see who sits if Lucca were to start.

Right now, I have to pick Gene. The easiest year of 4 year is next year as far as scheduling goes. He needs to make hay while the sun shines.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Which coach will find success 1st...GMac or Chiz?
Basketball by a long shot. GMAC brought in a good freshmen class this year (especially if/when lucca can play) and despite an average '08 class the '09 and '10 classes could be dynamite. We'll make the tournament in two years no question with the fresh/sophs/recruits (next 2 years) we have now as long as we don't have severe attrition.
Just look at what you have to pitch to recruits in BB: one of the great crowd environments in the country (can't say that in fball), 2 conference championships in the last 10 years (have to go a little further back for fball ), plus players can look at brackins and other recruits GMAC is in on and truly think logically they can come here and have nationally competitive teams. I don't know if you can sell that with fball at this point.
If I'm a nationally highly rated basketball recruit, I see a future at ISU. Chizik's gonna earn his money if he can convince highly rated fball players to come here.
Basketball I KNOW we will compete for conference championships and make tournament appearancesin the next 10 years.
Football certainly looks to improve next year but who knows if we will ever get to the point where we compete for conference championships and be nationally relevant year in and year out.

Kansas is doing it(but it is yet to be seen if they can sustain it), so why not us? We have a big name coach(while they just have a big coach)and great crowds during a horrible season. I think that should help, and once we start winning, things will just grow from there.

Re: Which coach will find success 1st...GMac or Chiz?
Gmac will get it done first. True football success will be a North championship... I don't think that will happen before we get back to the NCAA tourney.
