Why does the best offensive player on the best team always win the Heisman Trophy? Why not Alvin Bowen for Heisman?

The Heisman is a farce. It is not about the best college football player. It is about the best player the media likes from a marquee program.

I thought the Heisman was supposed to go to the best player in college football, not the media's favorite player.

Heisman is not even the best offensive player on a top5 team. It is the biggest name on a top5 team.

I don't agree about the marquee program bit, but I do agree that the Heisman is clearly awarded to the media favorite. I like how this year that there isn't that clear front-runner like Reggie Bush or Troy Smith, so the media has been found fumbling and bumbling about who wins the Heisman this year.

    Start sarcasm...

That can't be true. If that were true then some guy could lead the nation in rushing, break the 2000 yrd mark, twice, and not win. See, that would never happen.

    End sarcasm...

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

The media pays no attention to place kickers unless they kick a 60 yard field goal or something.

    Re: Alvin Bowen for Heisman

Well if you look at the most recent Heismans they have been from great teams and changed the game by theirselves. I am not sure there has been a Defensive player lately that changed the game like Reggie Bush or Troy Smith. It is awarded to the most outstanding player, not exactly the most valuable. Which is why Bush won over Young. I think it is harder for a D player to win because an offense can plan around him. On O you can control the touches or plays they guy will have, on D he was to react to what the other team does.

When was the last time a D player won it? Woodson won it, but has there been one since?

Reggie Bush and Troy Smith had a lot of great players around them. The other players made them look better. Like Reggie Bush had Lendale White, Dwayne Jarret and Matt Linert. Troy Smith had Anthony Gonzales, Ted Ginn jr., Atonio Pittman, and Chris Wells. Sorry, I gotta go.

Reggie is a stud and probably would have won whether or not he had the supporting cast. The guys that make a Heisman a farce are guys like Danny Weurffel who win the thing because all they have to do is throw the ball up and let the great receivers come down with it.

Dixon would have actually been a solid choice prior to the ACL injury

Tebow is legitimate. If Florida didn't have him they would not be very good.

Maybe because he just isn't that good??? Don't get me wrong he is a fine player but by no means the best defensive player in the conference, certainly not in the country, and not even CLOSE to the best all around player in the country. That said, I like him and am glad he was a cyclone. He will be missed next year.
