Wall mounting your flat screen
Ok, I got a 50 inch Samsung Plasma from Sears today. I have some serious questions about how to mount it on the wall properly. I understand there are plenty of wall mounts you can buy (suggestions welcome) but my questions lean more toward power and cable/dish hook-up.
How do connect the cable and power without the cords dangling from the tv? I assume you have to install a power outlet and some kind of outlet for the cable right where you mount the tv but do you get the cable company to do this for you or what?
Any help is much appreciated!

I mounted all my electronics in the room behind my plasma.
The other option is fishing a pvc pipe down your wall to run all your cords/cables.

Just tear the whole wall out and do what you want, and then redrywall and mud it. Would only be an afternoon job.

Re: Wall mounting your flat screen
Very well put.
The question becomes how "nice" do you want it. The yeppies like the wall plates and wall closers so it looks clean and professional. The redneck next store might just take a sledge hammer and create a hole to run the cables through.
My suggestion would be the wall plate personally. Where ever your equipment is, just put it into the wall, fish-hook it through the studs for flooring (easiest to run into basement and then back up, only if basement isn't finished) and connect to a wall plate. From that plate, you can connect to your TV. Downside is your buy two cables instead of one to hook everything up since your dividing the line with a connector plate.
I like the pipe idea so it doesn't get cluttered within the wall cavatie.

Re: Wall mounting your flat screen
I haven't had time to run cables through my wall yet, so in the mean time to keep them away from the boy I got a cable hider from Lowes. Basically a square plastic "tube" that you can stuff the cables in and double stick tape to the wall, I painted mine to match the wall and it hides them quite well. Not completely out of sight, but good enough until I have time and patience to do it permanently.

See I'm already confused, I wouldn't know the first thing about running cables through my wall and such...lets just say handy work is not my strong suit. Has anyone had a professional come in and do the electrical "hole in the wall" type of work? Do you have to call the cable company to do all this splicing and reconfiguring?

Wow, monoprice has good prices on the wall mounts. Can anyone recommend a good one?

Have any of you guys tried any of this flat cabling? DeCorp: FlatWire / Flat Wire Audio Cable Product Listing and Pictures
Apparently you can paint over it as well to hide it.

Re: Wall mounting your flat screen
Fishing wires through walls is actually pretty easy. I have always just done that rather than try flat cables.

Re: Wall mounting your flat screen
Are you going to use HDMI cable? It's a lot easier and monoprice has some good prices on that as well.
