Did we use a "search firm" to find Chizik?

Maybe we did, but that doesn't seem like Pollard's way, to me. I don't really see why any reasonably well-connected AD would need a "search firm" to find a new coach.

Don't think so....I think it was all JP

Course I am just saying this because I do not remember JP using one, but I am probably wrong.

I believe we did...

"I believe search firms can add a lot of value in certain situations, and they clearly added tremendous value to our recent football search," Pollard told the paper.

The search firm was called "Pollard and Associates." Didn't use an outside firm, after all, its what the AD is paid to do. It would be ridiculous to pay someone else....if he did, we'd have to ask what he's doing other than be a PR guy.

ronald wesley maly: What's An Athletic Director For? A Search Firm Found Chizik For Pollard, Now Minnesota Spends $80,000 To Look For Football and Basketball Coaches

Ron Maly may be a douche, but that's where I got the quote from.

It would surprise me if Pollard used a search firm to "find" Chizik. Everybody knew where he was , and many wanted to hire him. On the other hand, it would not surprise me if Pollard used a search firm to communicate with Chizik in the early stages of the process. One of the great advantages of search firms is that they allow you to have unofficial talks to gauge the level of interest (without getting an official approval from another AD and making the discussion a matter of public record).

Re: Did we use a "search firm" to find Chizik?

As a matter of fact, we did use a search firm to hire Gene Chizik. It was the same firm that Iowa State used to hire Pres. Goeffrey and Jamie Pollard. They are one of the best in the business, very thorough and have done a nice job for many Universities and firms.

Re: Did we use a "search firm" to find Chizik?

They are nice because the search firm can contact the coach before the AD would be allowed to. There was a story about it in the Omaha World Herald a week or so ago.

Yes and no.... a search firm WAS hired, but not to "FIND" our new coach. They were used to make some contacts and for the background search, etc..... Jamie Pollard "FOUND" Chiz all on his own and he was JP's priority from the start. Lastly, Ron Maly IS a douche.

That would be "douche bag" to include both the douche and the bag.

TO will use a person to make some calls on his behalf.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

True, but only cause Tommy and his old man bladder wouldn't be able to carry on a conversation for more than 5 minutes without his potential hire hearing the toilet flush unless he used a colostomy bag

“I’m just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard,” Eustachy joked. “If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, he’ll be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.”

I would think everyone has someone make some cattle calls before an AD digs deeper.

Couldn't have been the one that had to find the President for the EIU is it?
