I think Staiger could be a good/great player but who knows he could suck too. I think he will be serviceble at the least but i think we do not know what we will get from him. We cannot bank on him. We obviously need Wesley back, i know what we are missing in him.
A message to everyone if you think D. Buckley comes in next year and starts and plays like a veteran is crazy, i just hope he can contribute, he will be a freshman you cannot keep counting on freshman to make a huge impact immediately. There are too many people on this site banking on unknowns!!! Maybe they will be great players but mostly likely not in their first season at ISU.
P.S. Farnold Degand--Starting for N.C. State--Averaging 8 points/4.5 rebounds/ 2 assists
Tasheed Carr--Starting at St. Joseph's--Averaging 11 points/4 rebounds/9 assists a game
Shawn Taggart--Keep player of bench--Averaging 5.5 points and/6 rebounds

True...But Having Wes and Staiger would change our lineup by getting more rebounds, less turnovers and better scoring. That translates into a 4-0 record right now. I am not looking for Lucca to be the Go to man that averages 22 points a game. Lucca gives you a big body and he has played on some pretty good teams for being just a freshman. I guess you could even say he played professionally:)

I agree with you about Buckley. I think he comes in next year and is Garret's back-up. I firmly believe that by next year Diante will already be a star. We will have one of the best guard courts in the Big 12 with Diante and Lucca, not to mention Wes at the 3. I think Buckley is the first in as a back-up, with Peterson coming in to provide spot up three point shooting. Point being, Buckley doesn't have to be great, he just needs to be serviceable as a back-up his first year.
Have you seen Staiger play in person? If not, then you are being just as unreasonable by not expecting him to contribute.
As for the PS, all three of those players leaving are a result of Wayne Morgan' personnel handling, and have nothing to do with the current coaching regime.

The reason everyone thinks Lucca would contribute and be good is because the coach thinks so. He would know better than anyone.

I have seen Lucca in practice in he is flat out the best guard on the team. All you need to do is watch him play and you will see.

I will have to dissagree with you. I do believe dominic buckley will be the starting pg next year. I think garrett will be playing both guard spots next year. Lucca would be an immediate help. He is a very smart player with a big body who can shoot. He is the real deal with brackins. We havent seen our true team with wesley and lucca out. We will definetely be alot better throughout the season.

Mac has already said he expects Buckley to come in and be ready to play. He doesn't say this about everyone. I think eventually, if not immediately, the guard court will look like this:
Buckley-PG
Garrett-SG
Wes- 3G
Staiger gets lots of minutes off the bench. Eikmeyer, Peterson, and Haluska are odd men out, but will be a valuable spot minute guys.
The caveat on this is that Buckley will have to pick up our system, which can take some time. Garrett will play the point in this case. Plus, guys that can guard will play. Buckley may not be a stellar defensive guy right off.

I'm sorry, but there is no way Buckley / Garret will be starting as long as Staiger is around. We have seen the problems undersized guard courts have been giving us these past couple years. Buckley will not be ready to come in and start, and I doubt he will be able to ever knock Staiger out of the starting lineup. However, I could see see Staiger sliding to the 3 after Wes is gone, allowing Buckley to start his Junior year.

I'm just going mostly on what I've heard Coach Mac say about Buckley, which surprised me.
Nevertheless, depth at guard will be a good problem to have.

Edit: And from what I saw this summer of Lucca in the CCL, I thought he should be starting for us from day 1 or at least be getting serious minutes.
(this was before I knew wesley would be moving to the 2.)
