Omaha World Herald: Nebraska Coaching Candidates

Omaha.com Big Red Section

From today's Omaha World Herald. Basically here's the names they came up with

Bo Pelini, LSU Defensive Coordinator (Supposedly he's contacted a "third party" in regards to the job)

Barry Alvarez, Wisconsin AD (According to the story, if Alvarez would be offered the dual job of AD and head football coach, he'd be "very interested.")

Greg Schiano, Rutgers HC

Jim Leavitt, South Florida HC

Brian Kelly, Cincinnati HC

Jim Grobe, Wake Forest HC

Pretty weak pool they're looking at IMO. Leavitt has said he's not leaving USF. I think Schiano is waiting for JoePa to retire so he can take the Penn State job.

I can hear Jon Miller now. Alvarez to Nebraska and JP back to Wisconsin.

What ever happened to truth, justice and the American Way?

He talked about that last year right away also. Can't wait to here him stir the pot.

Oh.... And silly squawk fan in my hometown that I hate, came up to me and my brother at the bar this weekend. He was drunk, like always. Wearing one of those Iowa Cowboy hats they sell, drooling about how Iowa is going bowling in San Antonio. He swears he had inside sources.

Then he went on to insult me and Iowa State.... Thats until he got escorted out by my bar owner.

Is there any other reasons that I need to hate the Hawks? Oh and forget about talking about basketball to some of them, they went back to football mode.

3 am in Iowa City 2006, hoping for the repeat this year.

the list also forgot to include:
- Pete Carroll
- Urban Meyer
- Bellichick
- Parcells
- Christ

Cracks me up when Nebraska does a coaching search - with the 'who WOULDN'T want to coach here?' mentality. The last time around, they got turned down more often than a door-to-door salesman selling herpes.

On nfl live they mention tampa bays defensive coordinator monte kiffen as having ties to nebraska and not being offered an extension with the bucs. I really hope he is not interested

this is brought up all the time. hes not coming back. i grew up with montes nephew back in neb...monte loves the nfl, and his son lane too. they arent candidates despite what you hear.

We all remember making fun of our little brother. And then that day came when you looked at him and thought "Crap, when did he become taller than me?" There comes a time when you just know your time has passed and it's their spotlight now.

Flight tracking, gotta love it. A plane is about to depart Lincoln bound for Baton Rouge.

If Leavitt gets it, I suppose McCarney would come as part of the package.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

The rumored low target salary & a lame duck AD might severely limit the coaching pool for NU. Maybe the Baton Rouge flight is early evidence of this. Hey, Southern University is in Baton Rouge & their coach Richardson has won 5 conference titles in his career. It would be too funny if NU has as much trouble as they did with their last search.
