What will Ferentz leaving mean?
Here is the senario that I have seen coming.
First, as I posted a number of times, the pressure of this season has really taken it toll on Ferentz. A combination of losing, off field scandals, pressure to fire at least one asst. coach and the constant booing, has made the job not fun. I doubt he had any intentions to seek out another opportunity, however, the combination of all of these events may have opened his mind to taking a look at Michigan. More than likely, he was not contacted directly by Michigan, but through what is now standard operating proceedure, a search firm. This gives everyone the chance to deny they talked with each other. They act as an independent third party to help put things together. Before it is made public that there is any official communication, the deal will already be done.
For Iowa, it will be rush to the next search firm. It will be a semi panic for Barta because of the potential loss of recruits for Iowa. He knows Iowa State, Illinios and others will be hot on the tail of their recruits. Iowa HAS PLAYED HARD AND DIRTY in the recruiting wars (don't ask how I know, but I do) and if Iowa State's coaches can pay it back they will. And I'd be disappointed if they don't.
So expect Barta to move quick and look for the biggest name they can get on short notice. I don't have a clue whom that might be, but he will look for something to save face and look good. Not necessarily what is best in the long run.
This will be interesting to watch. And it will be a positive for Iowa State if it happens. KF had made strong inroads in Iowa. This will open the door for Gene Chizik to level the playing field, and to get back some recruits Iowa may have taken.
Uncertainity is the worst thing that can happen to a school during recruiting time. For Iowa, their worst nightmare might be just a few days away, especially with Iowa State on the move upward.

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
Can ISU leverage this debacle in Nebraska and the one taking place in IC (doesn't matter if KF goes at this point)? That is the question I am concerned with.
One year or even 3 years ago, I would say no they can not and haven't. But Coach is bird of a different ISU color... I sure as **** hope they can leverage this to easy pick up of recruits, easier wins and 'mojo'?

-keep I believe they can leverage this. One thing that looked funny to me was Ferentz offering the QB from Keokuck a full ride. From what I heard, Chizik and co. only saw him as a preferred walk-on candidate. Makes you wonder if KF is really into it lately. Iowa has also spent a lot of time watching who we are recruiting and going after those guys.

Please tell more.

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
It would mean we'd have at least 4 teams on our schedule next year with new coaches. (Iowa, Nebraska, A&M, Baylor)

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
I'm not really sure that iowa HAS any recruits that ISU wants. Maybe Prater and Cato. Their class this year (without Ford and Ellington) is far from impressive.
One thing to expect IF KF leaves (and I don't think he will), fans and recruits will come out of the woodwork with bad things to say about the staff and how the new coach is the best thing since sliced bread.

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
It once again takes all the pressure off of Barta's shoulders. He'll come off looking good without any blame of tough choices that need to be made. Just like the Alford situation. But i doubt itll happen, although it smells like there is something in the air. If you've watched Iowa football, you wouldnt hire Kurt Farents.

Big article in Omaha paper two weeks ago. 45 TDs and only 4 intercepts.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
Its not that hard to tear up the passing records in IA State HS football. Teams run the ball 75% of the time. You can hear the "quack-quack' most times balls are thrown by HS qb's.

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
I'm wondering who Iowa will go after for a new coach? Another Hayden Fry disciple?

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
i still dont think Ferentz will leave, he is getting a big check and i think he is happy with that

Re: What will Ferentz leaving mean?
Why would Michigan ever hire a coach that just went 6-6 in the Little 11 and didn't even play the top two schools in the conference?
