Re: Cubs willing to trade Prior
Finally moving on, this needs to happen, Cubs have pitching and can look elsewhere. Prior could use the change and the Cubs need to cut there loses.

Cubs management continued to believe these two would get healthy, putting all the eggs in their basket - these guys just couldn't do it. The thing of it is, when Prior was coming up, all anybody could talk about was how great his mechanics were and how that should keep him relatively healthy. Pretty ironic.

I bet they get a pack of bubble gum and some marbles for him. Otherwise, a team would be overpaying.

Re: Cubs willing to trade Prior
It's just like Wood, the Cubs have invested so much in him that you hate to see him go somewhere and turn it around. He's only cost about $3 mil in 2007 as he's arbitration eligible still and what if (big if) he is actually healthy and can pitch again? These days $3 mil is nothing for a decent pitcher when some closers and mediocre starters are gettin $10 mil deals in free agency. Like someone said, 2 of his injuries were freak, non-pitching related. Only this last one that required surgury was.
Maybe Dusty Baker will take him in Cincy since he's a big reason Wood and Prior were over-worked and ruined their arms.

Sign him and let him pitch. If he pitches well then you get a great deal out of him but if he doesn't, then you lose absolutely nothing. Its just not worth it to trade him for nothing, especially if he somehow returns to his 2003 form.

A wise man once said, "First learn stand, then learn fly. Nature rule, Daniel-san, not mine." That man...the late Pat Morita in his oscar winning role of Mr. Miyagi.

Re: Cubs willing to trade Prior
It seems to me that the organization kept pushing him to get healthy even though they said that they would keep waiting and not rush him along. He may have had great mechanics, but when you have to compensate for a shoulder and elbow injury, it will take it's toll.

Re: Cubs willing to trade Prior
They won't find anyone to trade for worth while... i agree... they should keep him and see what he can do...
When he had surgery earlier this year it was really the first time that anyone found something wrong with him... SO maybe he will get better.

Re: Cubs willing to trade Prior
have to keep him, can't afford to give him up for nothing and at this point you would get nothing significant. Wow, he had the potential to be remarkable, what a shame.
