I don't think anyone believes they will win, or play for, the National Championship "every year" but clearly LSU has had a very good window of opportunity to get one in the last couple of years and they haven't gotten it done.
One other thing...the no SEC Championship is also a big problem as I mentioned previously...it's not just about the National Championship.
The bottom line is that, although Nebraska didn't meet their fans' lofty goals, we at ISU are still looking up from the cellar at Nebraska even as they are in the "hog trough" as you say.
Being an alum of ISU and a supporter of LSU I have experienced two entirely different mindsets relative to expectations. And as much as LSU may have some unrealistic expectations at times, I think that the total fear of setting high expectations that most ISU fans have is far more heinous.
Just my opinion...but I would really love to see ISU start to embrace high expectations. Frankly, it was the fear that we should not expect more that kept us married to our previous FB coach for too long.
Why was Alabama stupid enough not to have a buyout clause for Saban?
If you will remember what happened last year...they went after Saban and he said no. Then they went after Rich Rodriguez and he said no after WVU sweetened his deal. At that point, the powers that be at Bama said to themselves, "We ARE Alabama and we want Saban so we are going to do whatever it takes to get him"...this meant waiting until the Dolphin's season ended and it meant basically having to offer Saban whatever he wanted. Saban (and his agent Jimmy Sexton) had Bama over a barrel and they took advantage of the situation...the richest contract in history guaranteed for eight years with no buy-out clause! God, America is a great country!
