So i've been playing COD 4 online when I went back over thanksgiving break, and since I got back to Ames it won't let me join a game whatsoever. All I get is "downloading game servers" then it says failed to connect to activision matchmaking (error 33)"
Anyone have any idea how to fix it? I live in apartments through Jensen, so our net is through ISUNet, is it a problem with the ISP or what?
Let me know if you guys know what is wrong.
I have a PS3 also btw.

Have you played games online at ISU before? If you're using ISU's internet, you usually have to register the console with IT Services (call them and they'll ask for the MAC address).

I have a PS3 also btw. I dont have a solution for you, but more of an explaination I think. I encountered this error with a previous COD when I would be trying to link up with maps that I didn't have updates too. It sounds as though its trying to read the appropriate gaming servers but gives you the error because it can't find anything to connect to.
If you live in the dorms, have you checked with anyone else within your area? Do they have the same issue? This could be a fault of wiring that may be specific to your room, or that part of the building.
Sorry of not much help, but thought I would shed some light as to why it might be doing it.

Well I have it hooked up wirelessly in my apartment, and I can play every other game online except COD4...I wonder if it is because there is a port blocker through ISUNet which has no affiliation with Iowa State University that won't let me get online for COD4...is that a possibility

This would help filter some questions. Try taking away the wirless and do it direct and see what happens. Check settings of the game; is there anything you have to setup for a wirless connection (probably not but just a thought)? Have you contacted the COD support, search google for the same issues?

I don't have any answers but when I lived in apartments through Jensen and had ISUnet, I always had a tough time playing anything online. I always assumed there was some "firewall" for the whole building and that's why it sucked. I can't remember if I ever got it figured out or not.
