Frank Martin is Wayne Morgan 2.0

Did anybody else watch that KSU game tonight? Honestly, the similarities are astounding.

1. Great athletes on the team, but nobody shares the ball and it's hard to tell if they even run any sort of offense.

2. Can't make a free throw to save their lives and late front end of 1-1 misses kill any chance of winning.

3. Guys clearly have no clue about what they should be doing, such as the guy who wanted to lay the ball up down three with 5 seconds left on the clock.

4. Ole Defense.

5. Star players jawing a teammates the whole game (Beasley for them, Stinson for us).

Edit: 6. How could I forgot shot selection? I mean what were guys thinking yesterday?

Honestly can anybody think of anything else. I mean it's shocking, straight from the circumstances they were hired under to the way their teams perform.

I do like that Pullen kid they have at point though. Going to be a very solid 4 year guy for them, he would do wonders for this Cyclone team. Weren't we recruiting him?

Pullen was being recruited for a while and I do see some striking similarities to Morgan. I think Martin is one of those guys that will be the head coach for a couple years and then never get a big chance again - ala Morgan. There are some people that make good high school coaches or assistant coaches in college but have no place being head coaches in college.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Except Morgan already crashed and burned at Long Beach State before he came to ISU. Martin's biggest gig was coaching high school ball in Miami

Mind the gap!

Maybe Wayne is upstairs telling Frank what to do.

Re: Frank Martin is Wayne Morgan 2.0

Morgan's first two teams played good defense, and were fun to watch as they were a good running team (Clark scored 30 against Drake two years ago, and is more suited to a running game). In his last year we had all first year bigs, and looked a little ragged and Stinson and Blaylock got frustrated at times. Mac's first two teams have had new guards and have looked ragged quite a bit of the time because of it (Taylor looked out of control most of the time). But don't forget that in Morgan's worst year we had a winning season and beat good Iowa, UNI and Drake teams on our way to the big 4 title, and in his first two years he won 4 post season games and beat 4 top ten teams at home and on the road (and should have beat KU twice in Lawrence if it hadn't been for their 3 pointer while Homan should have been shooting his second free throw). Doesn't sound to me like a guy that can't coach. He also won a conference title at Long Beach State. I believe in Mac and hope that he will give us some good teams, but I'm not going to put down Morgan after what he did for ISU following the Larrygate mess.

Re: Frank Martin is Wayne Morgan 2.0

He was on Cotlar a couple of weeks ago and he's living in Ames. If I remember correctly he co-owns a computer repair company of some sort, does color on some Big 10 broadcasts, and I believe plays guitar in a local Ames band, so he sounds pretty busy. Sounds like if the right coaching job came along, he'd look into it, but he's been canned twice now and chances of another good offer as a head coach might not be good. With his connections and recruiting ability, somebody would be smart to make him an associate head coach if he'd take that, but sounded like he would be mainly interested in another head job. I've talked to him before and he's a real nice guy, but his lack of good P.R. skills probably didn't help him at LBS or ISU.

Looking for some program stability - keep the coach, keep the players.
