coaching tenure

Who will be coaching at their respective schools the longest? And why?
1)McDermott-Iowa State
2)Alford-Iowa
3)Drake-Davis
4)UNI-Jacobson

Re: coaching tenure

1)McDermott-Iowa State....Could be the longest if he has winning seasons and keeps excitement every year in the program

2)Alford-Iowa....been on his way out since the Luke Recker/Reggie Evans season. Hasn't really recruited consistently since the Horner class. Could be out as soon as this year.

3)Drake-Davis....I would not be surprised if he retires within the next 5 years and hands the program over to his son.

4)UNI-Jacobson....Could be there long since he is young, but maybe not with his inexperience. They will give him time enough to get his guys in and playing.

I think this is about right with the comments. McDermott has at least 5 years unless he really sucks it up. Alford is gone as soon as he doesn't make the tourney. I give Davis three years to turn the program over to his son. Jacobson is the wild card, because being at a mid-major he could move on quickly if he does well or be there for quite a while if he doesn't. Thus my order is:

1. McDermott
2. Jacobson
3. Davis
4. Alford

Re: coaching tenure

I'm not sure about Davis and Alford. Unless Alford gets back in the tourney in the next two years, I could see Iowa showing him the door. I could also see him entertaining other offers. Davis is old enough that he won't be at Drake too much longer. I don't think they'll fire him, but I don't know how much longer he's going to be interested in coaching a lot longer.

I think McDermott will have the longest tenure. He's young, and his hard-nosed style of basketball should be successful at ISU. I think that he could be here for 20 years when it's all said and done.

I don't think Jacobson will be at UNI longer than 5 years. If he's unsuccessful, I don't think UNI will hesitate to make a change. They have gotten a taste of success. I think they won't tolerate a huge step backwards. If Jacobson is successful, he'll jump to a program that can pay him more, just like his mentor did.

Davis will retire in two years. Alford will be fired after next year. McD will be promoted in 5 years to a bigger school. Jacobson will retire at UNI in 2015.

Re: coaching tenure

I think if McDermott can be successful at ISU, he will remain here the rest of his career and we could be seeing a guy coach here for 20 years.
