Staiger chose playing NCAA basketball over playing for a pro team in Europe last year, and although he's lost a year of eligibility I'd say it comes down to the same decision this year. Pro ball in Europe vs being a Cyclone. My hope is that his bad experience with the NCAA is outweighed by his positivie experience in Ames with the team, coach, and fans.

It would just be very silly for him to leave. He came here to play 4 years of college basketball...now he gets 3. It sucks, don't get me wrong but its not like it would be the end of the world. I say if he leaves then he wasn't really invested in ISU for the long haul anyway.

From everything i have heard from a very good source with ties all the way to the top of the b-ball program......here's where things stand....
Lucca had made indications early on that should this appeal not be successful, that he probably return to Germany.
However, the fan base's support and all out devotion to this young man has made a serious impression on him, and its a lasting one. He has made indications to several people that he don't know if he could leave everyone thats supported him through this high and dry....take that for what its worth...
Meaning - this kid has character, class, and game....A true student athlete and representative of ISU that everyone can be proud of....
IMO i think he sticks it out, he knows he has the money back home and either way it will be there....He gets to practice with the team, i know its not game time but, he still evolving his game. What does 1 year of eligibility really mean? He came here for an education and to improve his game because he obviously didnt think he was going to do that in Germany. So, when all the smoke clears, i think he sees what everyone has done, and sees the light at the end of the tunnel - HE STAYS and will be an addition to our squad that will provide us something we've not had since Dedric Willoughby....an outside shooter that you cannot leave alone....if you do, he will sink it....couple that with Eikmeier and Buckley wow that infusion of talent will be awesome....

I'd say that Mr Vette deserves a standing O from the Hilton crowd the next time that he enters a game. Nice job from him - very classy move.

Sorry to nitpick but I think we've had at least a couple of guys (shooting-wise) like Willoughby since then...the top couple being Horton and Sullivan.

Another thought is that he transfers to Duke, Kansas, or UNC at semester break and the NCAA allows him to play right away reallizing that their rule was bogus and unfair.

(Not to give the impression I doubt your word/source, KMAC), but if this is true, then we as fans REALLY need to start pouring on the support at games and show him EXACTLY how much we want him to stay here.
Just a thought, but I think we should have chants for Lucca going nearly constantly during the Iowa game. Whenever there's a lull, start "Free Lucca", or "We want Lucca clap, clap, clap-clap-clap" ", or "F the NCAA" (kidding). If we can boo Adam Haluska for nearly 40 minutes straight, we can support one of our own for the same amount of time.

If Lucca ever steps onto the floor at Hilton, that place will be LOUD.

have you ever got caught outside In a strong rainfall? Yes or NO. If it"s yes, then you might half felt the pane of hard(tought) rain on you head. If it hurt"s then it"s tough. Yes or no. Okay I'm right and you know it.
So alothough you attempt"ed to say you didn"t understnad, now you do. Fair enough?

I know everyone wants him to stay--but there's a fine line between supporting him and trying to coerce him to stay (even unintentionally).
I'm just saying that I don't want him to feel pressured to stay--rather encouraged.

We all remember making fun of our little brother. And then that day came when you looked at him and thought "Crap, when did he become taller than me?" There comes a time when you just know your time has passed and it's their spotlight now.

Quite true about Vette. Even if it wasn't his idea, the kid still did it and that deserves a lot of credit.
