I thought I remember someone saying he has legit 4.4 speed.

Re: ISUCLONES33 need insight....

he is legit 4.4... if we see Arnaud take a sure stance at QB, than no doubt bates would most likely become a WR and return specialist. However i think he will be putting up a good fight at QB...

Gotta love competition.

I think we'll be seeing some competition in the 2-deeps at a lot of positions this spring and next fall.

Re: ISUCLONES33 need insight....

I still have to take issue with the return specialist position. If he could contribute at that position, then why didn't he. Having Blythe fake catching punts wasn't exactly the best option.

THANKS 33 for the insight, i would really like to see him with the ball in his hands in space, for that reason, i hope AA wins the job outright and Bates decides for him to see the field that he will move to WR because that imo is where we need an upgrade as far as athleticism....i know Hamilton is there and i like his upside a lot, and i think Graham has all the physical tools...but bates to me just comes off as one of those guys that does everything right....you can never have too many of those guys....That catch against Klinkenborg will forever be etched into my brain....I just look at our WR package especially 3-4 wide with Hamilton the 1, Graham the 2, Bates the 3 and Sumral the 4....thats the type of weapons that make AA's job really tough - Which wide open guy do i throw it too......Plus you put him the 3 spot he sees the field a lot and can still backup AA while Tiller redshirts....

Also, getting athletes out wide will give our line which will be tough next year, wide open holes and really make our offense dynamic...

Thanks again 33, as always love the insight.....

While your with me, what gives with Wallace Franklin, i know you had had conversations with him and AA last year, is he frustrated about lack of PT and what is it about his game that needs polishing to see the field more and make plays we all know he's got the wheels......thanks,K

Blythe actually caught some.

The biggest thing is he didn't fumble any away like we were doing early in the season.

They just need to have bates on the field the offense can get really creative having a player like that on the field.

Re: ISUCLONES33 need insight....

I do realize that he caught some. I was exagerrating a bit. But, I don't understand why he was even back there. Did everyone else drop the punts in practice. And, before everyone goes off on me. I understand that catching punts is not the easiest thing. In my football career, I couldn't do it. I am also not the athletes that these guys are either. It's just going to be one of those things, that never really made sense to me.

Wallace had his TD in toledo and that was about it, he is fast but they want to get some meat on him thiss offseason and make him a physical reciever, he isnt physical enough to be D1 this season and that is what they are working on. He has the skills no doubt. Hopefully he has some success next season, he works hard

Me either. Blythe was not a guy with breakaway speed or the ability to make guys miss... two of the three qualities you want in your punt returner. I guess one out of three was the best we could do this year. It's sad when your team basically gives up at least 100 yards of field position every game because of poor special teams.

and not in spot situations running reverses where the defense knows it's coming to him.

This season he had 7 rushes with gains of 12 and losses of 28 for a net loss of 16 yards rushing.

For the time being I think QB is the place for him to be at, if they moved him to safety I would really have to question the coaches on that decision, but they won't...guessing it is not even being or been considered. The battle for QB should be very competitive this year...which is good for everyone. Hopefully Tiller or Jordan can come up and really play well....because I would really like to see Bates be a full-time WR....I think he could really be good there.....like NFL good (Calvin Johnson good). He is big, fast, physical, and has great hands.

No offense RedStorm, but Bates is not even close to the talent level of Calvin Johnson... They probably should never be put in the same sentence again

Yeah, I agree, it was pretty obvious that he wasn't big enough yet...
