Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley

Looks like AT will have lots of chances to shine.
Will Rashon or Jiri then be our best perimeter shooters?
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
I hope whatever is best for Wes gets done, I would hate to see him push it this season and end up never being 100%, hurting both the team and him in the long run, he has an opportunity to one day make a run at the NCAA, he has all the potential to build on some great talent, it would be a shame to ruin his future on a sub-par year, as much as it sucks not seeing him play.
And the idea of getting him and all this year's freshmen and next year's freshman to run together for three years is very appealing.

And thank you Stumpy for this: -
Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
I think if Wesley redshirted it might help keep Lucca around. They could both stay home from roadtrips and shoot the rock around at Hilton.

Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
I see Washington state squeaked by Baylor. Too funny. It sucks that Wesley might be out. However, think about the years that will be available now. I think the team will be really solid with another year out of Wesley.

Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
I agree with a lot of you, whatever is best for Wesley is what should be done, as much as that sucks. -
Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
I really hope Wesley can get healthy, is there any reason why he wouldn't recover soon?

Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
For many years the cutoff point for a medical redshirt was playing in 20% of the teams games. That meant 3 games for football and 7 for basketball.
I think they moved that to 30% last year. I know the number for football is now 4 games. I assume basketball would then be 9 or 10 games played. Also I think all of the games played have to be in the first half of the season in order to get the redshirt.
I don't think there is much of an appeal process. I have never heard of a medical redshirt being denied because the injury wasn't judged serious enough. It's fairly automatic for the first redshirt as long as the playing limit hasn't been exceeded.

I guess I will be in favor of Wes redshirting if it appears its doubtful he will be up to full strength by the time conference season rolls around.

The NCAA is already laughing at the thought of doing us a favor.

Re: Mac Just said Redshirt a possibility for Wesley
Obviously we aren't going to be overly competitive this year, something a lot of us expected, and if Wesley isn't going to be able to be 100% - he might as well get better and redshirt. I know it's not easy to see one of our best players sit the bench but he can keep Lucca company:)
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.
